Yvonne Evangeline was born on January 1, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan to Albert Friere and Irene (Ziesemer) Friere. She was baptized January 22, 1945, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Warren Township, Van Dyke, Michigan. When Yvonne was 4 years old, the family relocated to the Parkers Prairie, MN area and eventually Alexandria, MN. She confirmed her baptismal vows before the congregation at Zion Lutheran Church, Alexandria, MN on March 22, 1959.
It was at the request of Yvonne for David’s senior picture and his reply that she pay him “50 cents” that their love story began. She was united in marriage to David Brede on May 16, 1964, at Zion Lutheran Church, Alexandria.
After their marriage, Yvonne and Dave relocated to the Minneapolis area and she worked several jobs including teacher aide and as a cashier at the local store. While in Minneapolis, two daughters were born, Tracey Louise and Melissa Kay. They resided in Minneapolis until deciding to return to their “roots” and owned and operated a café in Millerville, MN. Many friends were made during this adventure until it was sold and their final move to Brandon, MN occurred in 1983. Upon their move to Brandon, another daughter was “adopted” by Ma and Pa Brede, Shellie (Deason) Whitt. Although not related by blood, the bond is just the same.
It was at this time that Yvonne found her true calling. She worked as a cashier at the grocery store in Brandon, under various owners until her health caused her retirement in January 2023. Many have said her “infectious smile and positive attitude is what she will be remembered for. She loved going to garage sales to find treasures, was active in her local Relay for Life team and had an unconditional faith and love for everyone. Yvonne was a member of Chippewa Lutheran Church, Brandon, MN. Her pride and joy were her two grandsons, and most recently great grandson. She will be watching them from above.
Yvonne E. Brede, age 78, of Brandon, MN passed away peacefully surrounded by love on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at the Barrett Care Center. She was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Irene, brothers Duane and Ferdelle; sisters Valerie, Shirley and Eunice; brother-in-laws Norbert Roers, Werner Roers and Dennis Hubred. Yvonne is survived by her husband of 59 years, David Brede, daughter Tracey (Curt) Krueger and Missy (Ken) Hanson, grandsons Shawn (Melanie) Krueger and Travis (Paige) Krueger and great grandson Corbin Krueger. A sister-in-law, Juanita Freier and brother-in-law, Bob Geris also survive as well as many nieces and nephews and special friends.
