Zeffie H. Pirtle, 86, of Carver St., passed away on August 11, 2025. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at New Song Christian Fellowship, burial will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery (New Section). A visitation will take place from 1:00pm to 6:00pm on Friday, August 22, 2025, at West Funeral Home Chapel.
Zeffie Hazel King, as born on December 23, 1938, in Childress, Texas, to George Blackmon and Lillie Mae Thomas. She was raised and educated in De Kalb, Texas, until 1955, and she and her family moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico. She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1971, after which she worked for various businesses in around town. In the late 1940s, Zeffie met John Quincy Pirtle and met the man of her dreams. They were united in marriage on Oct. 31, 1970. She and John worked hard raising their children. Zeffie was a very caring and nurturing person and enjoyed her time working at Lakeview Christian Nursing Home, taking care of the elderly as well as the Alcoholic Center. She enjoyed helping people, singing, and working alongside her husband at The United Holy Trinity Church. She was an amazing member of the community her motto was "Always put others before yourself." Zeffie loved spending time
with her family and will be missed more than words can say.
Zeffie is preceded in death by her loving husband, Rev. John Q. Pirtle, parents George Blackmon and Lillie Mae Thomas, children Tony Pirtle and Karen Pirtle, siblings Juanita Stearns, Esther King, Leila Bell Giddens, Georgia Wooten, and Odell Perkins.
She is survived by her children Robbie Pirtle, Eric Pirtle, Joan Pirtle, John Q. Pirtle, Jr., Patricia Haynes, Yolanda Dotson, James King, and Stevie Pirtle. As well as 20 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren.
