Lorene R. Subia

Lorene R. Subia , 56, of Carlsbad, NM passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2025. A Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at West Funeral Home Chapel. On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, a rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. at San Jose Catholic Church followed a celebration of Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. also at San Jose Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the new section of Carlsbad Cemetery. Lorene Ramirez Subia was born January 26, 1969 in Artesia, NM and as a child moved with her family to Carlsbad, NM where she graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1987. Lorene was self-employed. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed spending time at the horse races, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and the LA Dodgers. She also loved dancing, spending time at the ocean or going to the most recent movie released as well as spending time with family and friends. She was also a long-time member of San Jose Catholic Church. Her children remember her as an amazing mother who taught them to stand up for themselves and never give up on their dreams. She encouraged them to be fierce, tenacious, and to live life fully. She was their biggest supporter, always reminding them to work hard for what they wanted. Her daughter proudly shares that she is a "mini version" of her mother, carrying her boldness, feistiness, strength, and fire. Lorene's love and lessons will forever live in their hearts. Lorene is preceded in death by her father Peter L. "Pete" Subia and sister Arlene Aguliar. She is survived by her children: Rodney Chavez of Carlsbad and Megan Hernandez of Portland, OR; her mother Maria Orona and sister, Gina Subia, both of Carlsbad, NM; brother Pete and Sarah Subia, of Midland, TX and dear sister Zolene Voigt Knott of Carlsbad, NM, as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Pallbearers are Sabino Calvillo, Sebastian Ramirez, Pete Subia, Greg Subia, Gilberto Carrillo and Rodney Chavez. Honorary Pallbearers are Easton and Jace Subia.
