Zelda Ackles

Zelda Jeanette Moore (Hodge) was born July 2, 1927, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Cynthia Lucille Hodge and Leonard Moore. She passed away peacefully on January 25, 2025 at the age of 97 years, 6 months and 23 days.
She attended Wendell Phillips, School #63 for kindergarten through 8th grade. Zelda graduated from Crispus Attucks High School on May 29, 1947. She met her future husband there.
Zelda was united in Holy Matrimony to James Ackles, Jr., in Indianapolis, Indiana on September 18, 1948. They shared 30 plus years of marital bliss until his death on January 23, 1979. Over the years, Zelda had three fur babies.
Zelda loved working in her yard, cutting grass, trimming her shrubbery, and tending her flower garden. She had every gardening tool you could imagine in her toolshed. She loved listening to all genres of music from jazz to rock and roll to gospel. Her house was always full of the sound of music.
She was a long-time member of St. Peter & Paul Cathedral which she supported until her health began to fail her. Zelda enjoyed supporting her two favorite charities, the Wish Foundation and the Veteran's Association. Zelda was a very caring, loving and kind-hearted person, who was very knowledgeable.
Zelda was employed at Indianapolis Glove Factory sewing fingers onto gloves until their closing. She then joined the workforce at L.S. Ayres (Macy's), working in their mailroom for 25 years until her retirement in 1984.
She was preceded in death by both parents, one brother, Hamilton Jeter, Sr of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, two sisters, Deborah Rose Tyler and Gussie Mae Griffin of Indianapolis IN, and one nephew, Eric Leon Dixon of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Zelda leaves to cherish her memory her primary caregiver/cousin, Lana M. Coleman, god-daughter, Veronica Bellamy, two nieces, Janice L. and Cheryl A. Williams, two nephews, Wayne E. And Robert A. Williams, Sr all of Indianapolis, and a host of cousins.
