Zelda Ruth Christophe, lovingly known as Ruthie and Ganny, left this world on February 8, 2025, surrounded by her cherished loved ones in Biloxi, Mississippi. Born on January 15, 1957, in Miami, Florida, Zelda led a life filled with kindness, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to her family.

Zelda was a devoted mother and grandmother whose love was as enduring as it was profound. She had a gift for making everyone feel seen and valued, offering her undivided attention and the best advice at every turn. Her children, Alicia Jordan, Ashley Collins, Andrew Collins, and Joseph Collins, remember her not only for her nurturing spirit but also for the joy she found in daily conversations with them. The talks they shared will forever be cherished memories.

As a grandmother, she poured her heart into her grandchildren—Jayvion, Isaiah, Elijah, Makahi, Ashley King, Makaiah, Shelby, Liam, Mia, and Alysha—ensuring that they felt her love in every moment spent together. Zelda's warmth and generosity created bonds that will endure beyond her time here.

Zelda was a Navy veteran, her favorite duty station was Pascagoula, Mississippi, where she met her late ex-husband. She was very fond of her time there, always telling us memories of her and our father, Albert Collins. Her proudest moments weren’t solely defined by her military service; they included volunteering at a mission in Kansas—a role that held a special place in her heart.

Zelda enjoyed many joyful moments throughout her life, one of which was a wonderful trip to Maui with her daughters, relishing the breathtaking beauty of the Road to Hana. She shared many happy afternoons watching movies with her sister, Mae Christophe-Harris, while indulging in cake and ice cream. Beach outings with her son, Andrew, brought her immense joy. She enjoyed time with her son Joseph playing U.N.O in Natchitoches with a few of her grandkids. Her love for winter in Alaska allowed her to enjoy the beauty of the snow-covered landscapes.

Zelda's legacy embodies the essence of kindness and nurturing that touched the lives of all who knew her. She leaves behind her beloved mother, Emily Christophe, her children Joseph, Alicia, Andrew, Ashley, son-in-law Jeromy, her sister Mae and brother-in-law Charles Harris Jr., brothers Anthony Christophe and Mike Christophe with sister-in-law Gina, along with her loving grandchildren who will carry her memory forward.

She has rejoined her father, Joseph Christophe who was her first best friend, and her dear nephew, Myles Christophe, along with her maternal and paternal grandparents—Morrell and Matilda Metoyer, and Ernest and Eveline Christophe—who welcomed her with open arms.

Though we mourn the loss of such a beautiful soul, we take solace in the countless memories she created for us. Zelda Ruth Christophe's spirit will forever fill our hearts, and her legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire us each day as we strive to embrace the world as she did—with kindness and an open heart.
