Zita Ann Powell

(Nee Johnson) Reunited with her beloved husband of 64 years Fran Powell on Sunday, September 7, 2025 at the age of 89. Cherished mom of Annette (John) Groth, Michael (Madeline), William (Vicki), Robert, James (Jacqueline), and Charlie. Grandma of Carlotta, Andrew, Jennifer, Melissa, Christopher, Michael, Luzita, Matthew, Nicholas and Owen. Great grandma of Oliver, Mason, Elias, Audrey, Adaline, Andres, Leah and Kyle. Sister of Mary Jo Evans and sister-in-law of Janell (John) Braatz. Preceded in death by her parents and grandsons Matthew and Aaron and daughter in laws Sandra and Rosemary and brother William Johnson. Also loved by other relatives.

Zita was very devoted to not only her family, but also to St. Jude's parish which she was a parishioner for 68 years. She started as a teachers aid in the school and then worked in the parish office. Volunteered for many years with decorating the church, embroidering the baptismal gowns, ironing the altar cloths and whatever else she able to help with.

She will be remembered for her ability to make everyone feel welcome, loved and cared for There were the kitchen table conversations regarding religion, politics and life in general. The long phone conversations with family and friends, which many did not know that she actually hated talking on the phone and that was long before her hearing was an issue. She was not a fan of Face Time either.

She had a wonderful sense of humor in dealing with her declining health and life in general which is a quality she has passed on to her children and grandchildren. She was a mom with many talents she was a sewing wiz, amazing artist, wonderful cook, loved gardening. Her thirst for knowledge was unquenchable, she loved to read all types of books.

We were the most fortunate children to have a mom like her.
