It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved uncle, Zuhair Kareem, who departed this life peacefully in his home on May 5th, 2025 at the age of 90 in Baltimore, Maryland.
Zuhair was born on December 1, 1935, in Mosul, Iraq. He lived a life marked by kindness, quiet strength, and generosity. Though he never married, he embraced his family with unwavering love and dedication, playing a special role in the lives of his nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.
Zuhair dedicated much of his professional life to Johns Hopkins University, where he served for many years as a senior medical photographer in the Department of Pathology. He took great pride in his work, which combined his artistic eye with a commitment to advancing medical understanding.
He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his sense of humor, and his love of gardening, cooking, and photography. His presence brought calm, comfort, and cheer to those around him.
He was the beloved son of the late Saleem Kareem and the late Hayat Hanna; dear brother of Nael and his wife Faeza, and cherished brother of Salwa and Rafida, as well as the late Clementine and the late Zeki. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, along with a wide circle of friends and loved ones who will miss him dearly
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 14th, 2025 at 10:00 AM at The Cathedral of Mary Our Queen, 5200 N Charles St, Baltimore, MD 21210. A graveside service will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, located on 233 Homeland Avenue, Baltimore, MD.
Zu will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him Amen.
