On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, Mubarak Abdul Kareem, known at birth as Spencer Williams, met his final moments with unwavering grace. He uttered his last words in prayer with his wife of seventeen years, "Thy will be done," - the culmination of a life lived in service, faith, and love, a testament to the man he was. Mubarak was born to the late Archie and Elvira Williams in Port Arthur, Texas. He earned a Bachelor's Degree from Southern University at New Orleans and a Master's Degree in Social Work from West Virginia University. He dedicated his life to serving the youth of New Orleans, working tirelessly for thirty-nine years for the City of New Orleans, Department of Human Services. He was the Superintendent of Milne Boys Home and the Youth Study Center and later served as the Social Services Coordinator. He retired from the City of New Orleans, having spent his last years of service with the New Orleans Police Department. Mubarak's impact extended beyond his profession. He championed social justice and civic engagement as a Silver Lifetime Member of the NAACP, serving as Past Chairperson of its Political Action Committee. He led the Big Easy Kiwanis Club as President and was a founding member of Armstrong Family Services. His voice resonated within the New Orleans Coalition, a beacon for change and equity. Left to continue his legacy are his wife, Deborah Violet Chapman-Kareem; three children, Saleem Kareem Williams, Raheem Abdul Williams, and Tahirahana Williams; three step-children, Shauntel N. Brown-Blake (Corey), Dr. Dominique A. Lucien, and Timothy David Ray; nine grandchildren, Destiní A. Warner, Sasa A. Middleton, Neghasi Middleton, Imani N. Brown, Caleb R. Blanco, Nadeeya Williams, Jermari N. Brown, Cassidy R. Sylvester, and Saleem White; one sister, Gloria (Calvin) Barges; and a host of nieces, nephews, and loved ones. Members and Friends of Celebration Church, Second Free Mission Baptist Church, the NAACP, Big Easy Kiwanis Club, Armstrong Family Services, the New Orleans Coalition and former and current staff and participants of Milne Boys Home, the Youth Study Center, the New Orleans Police Department, Orleans Parish Criminal District Court, Liberty's Kitchen, are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, November 30, 2024, for 10:30 a.m. at Celebration Church, 2001 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA. 70001. I'm honored to have the opportunity to express my appreciation of being touched with the kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit of my friend, Mubarak Kareem.

While my heart aches with his loss, I am deeply grateful for the time we shared during this year´s Lenten season.

His loyalty and devotion started almost 30 years ago. As one of the charter board members of Louis Armstrong Family Services. He took on the responsibility of providing strategic leadership, governance, and oversight to ensure the organization's mission and objectives were achieved. In 1995, he spearheaded the recruitment of other qualified board members of our nonprofit organization.

His presence will forever remain in my heart. His legacy of honesty and straightforwardness will continue to inspire me.

Thank you for joining us as we celebrate the life of my friend, Mubarak Kareem.

Let not your heart be troubled, Ye believe in God also believe in me. In my Father´s house are many mansions, if it was not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there ye may be also. John 14 V 1-3

Debra, may God provide you enough strength to face these difficult times. Although no words can really help to ease the loss you bear, just know that you are very close in my every thought and prayer. Mubarak was such a honorable, upright, principled, virtuous, exemplary, noble, magnanimous, compassionate, benevolent, trustworthy, reliable, sincere, empathetic, kind-hearted, selfless, courageous, resilient, and integrity-driven man. He will be missed!
