Anthonia Alero Kareem (nee Wiltshire) was born on June 13, 1951, in Lagos to the family of John Preston Wiltshire II and Bertha Adoko Wiltshire (nee Aduayi) from Aneho, Togo, both of blessed memory. She was the first born of the family. Her father, who was born in Lagos, was a descendant of the Wiltshire family of St Philips, Barbados, West Indies whose father who settled at Obalende, Lagos over a century ago, fought in the World War for the Royal West Africa Frontier Force (forerunner of the Nigerian Army). Her grandmother, Cecilia Atumu Wiltshire was an Itsekiri Princess from Ideghele Warri, an Oil community in Delta State, a descendant of Olu Erejuwa I the 15th Olu of Warri.
She was educated at St. George's School, Falomo, Lagos for her Primary education. After completion, she proceeded to Marywood Girls College Ebute Metta, Lagos for her Secondary Education completed from Aunty Ayo Girl's Secondary School Obalende, Lagos.
After obtaining her Pitman College Certificate from the United Kingdom, she joined the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as a Secretary from where she retired after many years of meritorious service. She was Customary Court Judge at Apapa Local Government and Surulere Local Government. She was a member of Girls' Guide. She was inducted as a member of International Womens' Society on the 19th of May 2018. She was a member of Catholic women's Organization & St Rita Society at St Michael's Catholic Church Lafiaji.
Late Anthonia Kareem married Engineer Mukaila Alabi Kareem of blessed memory, from Ijebu Ishiwo Ogun State in 1979. Engr. Kareem served with the Federal Ministry of Works.
She was humble, active, caring, generous and Mother hen to her siblings. She was active and very popular in the Obalende community. Very sociable, always in the midst of friends, families and siblings. She was mother to so many children.
She is survived by six children, Omobolanle Umeugo of Middletown Connecticut United States of America, Mojisola Badejo of Swindon United Kingdom, Afolabi Kareem of Severn Maryland, Hakeem Kareem, Wasiu Kareem, Toyosi Kareem of Lagos Nigeria, siblings, grandchildren, in-laws (Onyedikachi Umeugo, Oludare Badejo & Ruth Kareem) and cousins.
Antho, you will be greatly missed. Sleep well until we meet again.

Family and friends may call on Thursday, December 21st from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and on Friday, December 22nd from 9:30 to 10:30 am at Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 22 at 11:00 am at Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 10 Elm Street Middletown followed by a burial in Saint Sebastian Cemetery in Middlefield.
