Pamela Dimond Obituary

Pamela Coues Dimond
Feb 9, 1938 - Nov 14, 2020
Pam radiated positive energy. She greeted the world with an enormous smile and a zest for life. Whether you sat across from Pam at dinner or ran into her on a walk, Pam had a way of connecting with people that left all who encountered her feeling a little bit brighter.
Pam was raised in Weston, MA and Prouts Neck, Maine. A graduate of Concord Academy ('56), she went on to attend Briarcliff College. After college, she worked at the Boston Lying in Hospital with Dr. T. Berry Brazelton and then Columbia Presbyterian. She moved to New York City, a city that never left her soul.
On a ski weekend in Vermont, Pam met her husband, Ren Dimond, by chance on a chairlift. Not long after the birth of their second child, the couple left New York and moved to New Canaan, CT where they raised their two children. Pam started her career while her children were still in school working for Cowles Business Media:FOLIO, as an event manager in the Magazine Publishing Industry. After 28 years of marriage, Pam and Ren parted ways. At this time, Pam was in full swing in her career managing a team of 12 and travelling around the country to oversee Folio conferences. Later, Pam went on to start her own event consulting firm which she enjoyed for many years.
Pam ultimately moved to Rowayton Woods in Norwalk, CT where she dedicated much her time to St. Luke's Parish in Darien. She enjoyed years working for the weekly Community Supper whether it was chopping food or welcoming diners. She also co-created a support group for active seniors who hoped to lead vibrant lives. An avid political junky, Pam devoured the New York Times and the New Yorker. She kept her mind sharp by attending Continuing Ed classes at the community college.
Pam was continually drawn back to New York City. She enjoyed memberships at several museums, attended off-Broadway plays, and would travel to the city weekly just to walk the city streets. Another great love was skiing. Pam travelled all over Western Europe and the United States through this passion and made many friends along the way. She was proud to spend her 80th birthday on the slopes of Aspen.
But nothing gave Pam more pleasure in her retirement years than devoting time to her children and grandchildren. Her boundless energy allowed her to care for three teenagers for weeks on end and to teach her youngest granddaughter to ride a bike. All the while, she never missed her daily (sometimes twice a day) three mile walk on the beach.
It was easy to believe that Pam was invincible. Sadly, a diagnosis of ALS at age 82 took away two of Pam's greatest joys; walking and talking. But, nothing could quell her immense positivity. She spent her last months in Baltimore surrounded by family. She faced this challenge with courage and a smile and was able to find happiness until her last days.
Pam will long be remembered for her long graceful stride and effervescent smile whether she was walking in Rowayton, on the beach in Prouts Neck or down Madison Avenue.
Pam was predeceased by her mother and father, Mildred Davidson Coues and William "Peter" Pearce Coues of Boston, MA and Prouts Neck, ME. Predeceasing her by just 11 weeks was her former husband and lifetime friend, Renwick Dimond. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Pearce and Phoebe Coues of Manchester, MA; her son Renwick Dimond Jr., his wife, Catherine, and Ren's children, Oliva and Lucy of Richmond, Virginia; her daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Scott Giese and their children, Griffin, Scotty and Amelia of Baltimore. She is also survived by her nieces, Phoebe Coues Houghton and Mandy Coues Sheriff, and her nephew, Ben Coues. Her love and positivity will forever be carried in our hearts.
