George Tiffany Obituary

GEORGE TIFFANY

Oct. 5, 2014

George B. Tiffany, 89, of 9125 SR 3001, Laceyville (North Flat), passed away early Sunday morning, October 5, 2014, at the Golden Living Center in Tunkhannock, where he had been a resident for the last eight months.

George was born in Tunkhannock on April 26, 1925, the son of the late John I. and Edith Valentine Tiffany. He was a graduate of Laceyville High School Class of 1943. After graduation, George proudly served his country with the United States Army as a Technician Fifth Class with the 104th Timberwolf Division during World War II in the European Theater in Germany, Belgium, and France. He also served in the Military Police in Marseille, France, before coming home.

George married the former Ferne A. Otten on June 5, 1949, and they were married for more than 65 years. George worked at Procter & Gamble Paper Products in Mehoopany for 20 years before retiring in 1989. In July of this year he celebrated 25 years of retirement. He also owned and operated a dairy farm in North Flat. He also owned a trucking business that hauled coal in the Laceyville and surrounding areas. George also was a substitute mail carrier out of the Laceyville Post Office for many years.

He was a former Wyalusing Valley High School Director. George attended the Mehoopany Baptist Church. He was a member of the Franklin Lodge #263 F&AM in Laceyville, for more than 50 years and a member of the Rought-Hall Post #510 American Legion for more than 55 years. George was a former member of the National Rifle Association. He was a member of the P&G Retirees Club and loved traveling over the past years with the P&G retirees. He took pride in keeping his farm looking its best and was a busy man who just enjoyed working.

George is survived by his wife Ferne A. Otten Tiffany; his children: Maureen and husband, Kevin, Downs of Wyalusing, Curtis and wife, Terri, Tiffany of Laceyville, Beth Tiffany of Laceyville, and Lisa and husband, Bobby, Adams of Bivalve, Md. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Erin Downs, Michelle (Scott) Lambert, Kristin Tiffany, Christopher Tiffany, Jonathan Adams, and Laura Adams; two great grandchildren: Gavyn Lambert and Reese Lambert; one niece, three nephews, and several cousins.

Besides his parents George is preceded in death by his son Craig M. Tiffany (Dec. 31, 2005) and grandson Nathan Tiffany Downs (Jan. 26, 1982).

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m. at Sheldon Funeral Homes, Main Street, Laceyville, with Rev. Joseph Billingsley of the Mehoopany Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be at the North Flat Cemetery in Laceyville, following the funeral service. Graveside military services will be conducted by the members of the Rought-Hall Post #510 American Legion, the Dennis Strong Post #457 American Legion, and the Endless Mountains V.F.W. Post #3583.

Our thoughts & prayers are with you. May God bless & sustain you & grant you strength, courage, wisdom, grace, peace, serenity & a strong faith. One "glorious day" we shall all join on that "Golden Shore", what a "Reunion" it had to be when George was reunited with his loved ones gone before him. We know that we shall meet again in God's timing. Matthew 10:30 says that every hair on our heads are numbered & Ecclesiastes 3 says that there is a time & a place & a reason & a season for everything under the Heavens & God is in control. The spirit is eternal & George's spirit will remain with his loved ones in every bright, shining star & in every beautiful, colorful rainbow & in the sun & the moon & the clouds. Just look up & George is your "Guardian Angel" watching over you.

George will certainly be missed but we know that he now has a new body & flying with the Angels!!
God bless, comfort & cherish you with all your precious memories to hold near & dear to your hearts!! We send our love!!
