David Bowling Obituary

David E. Bowling, Jr., Ph.D.

Granville - David E. Bowling, Jr., Ph.D. a retired educator of 40 years, died Sunday January 13, 2019 in Lebanon, Ohio at the age of 85. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late David E. and Helen L. Bowling and was an Army veteran who served during the Korean War.

A graduate of Wilmington College with a degree in Vocational and Industrial Education, Dr. Bowling earned his Master's Degree at Ohio University and his Doctorate in Vocational and Industrial Education from the University of Illinois. He taught at Athens and Champaign Urbana High Schools, Ohio Northern University, Miami University, and was Director at the Licking County Joint Vocational School and Scioto County JVS where he retired in 1995.

David was a member of First Presbyterian Church, 36 year member of the Kiwanis Club of Granville where he served on the Board of Directors, helped charter the Jaycees in Ada, Ohio, enjoyed flying as a private pilot, and was a car enthusiast. To many, David will be remembered as a teacher, administrator, and disciplinarian. Those closest to him will remember him with a great sense of humor, and often with an impish smile.

Surviving are his children and their spouses, Brian and Julie Bowling and Leslyn and Robert Barrone; grandchildren, Elyse and Rachel Bowling and Charles, Doran, and George Barrone.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Saundra L. Bowling who died in 2012.

A memorial service celebrating David's life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 19, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church, 110 W. Broadway, Granville with Rev. Karen J. Chakoian as celebrant. The family will receive friends following the service in Heritage Hall at the church. A private graveside service with military honors will be held at Welsh Hills Cemetery in Granville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are preferred to First Presbyterian Church.
