David Renwick Obituary
SPARTANBURG — David Marcellous Renwick, age 58, husband of Susan Smith Renwick, passed on Friday, November 18, 2022.
He was born in Newberry, South Carolina, on October 31, 1964, to Robert M. (deceased) and Vernetha F. Renwick. He was a 1982 graduate of Newberry High School and went on to earn a BA from Wofford College in 1986. While at Wofford, David was a four-year letterman on the Terriers' baseball team, also serving as captain of his team.
David was a loving, christian husband and father, completely devoted to his family. Whether coaching his children or cheering them on from the stands, David always showed up. He and Susan were at every function that involved their family. David led the family in their having a firm foundation of faith. They are members at First Baptist Church of Spartanburg where David served his church family as a deacon. In addition to being a devoted family man, David was a dear friend to so many.
After becoming established in corporate banking in North Carolina, David continued his business career for the next 25 years in the family business, Safeguard Safety Shoes, Spartanburg, S.C.
David is survived by his wife of 31 years, Susan Smith Renwick, and their three children: Adam David, Jack Bradley, and Anna Grace. He is also survived by his mother, Vernetha F. Renwick, and three siblings: brother, William Renwick (Terry); sister, Martha McGuffee; brother, Hugh Renwick; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, conducted by Mr. Chuck Wallington. A visitation will precede the service at 1:30 p.m., also at FBCS.

The family also wishes to express their gratitude to the Westview-Fairforest Fire Department, the SRMC Emergency Medical Services and the Spartanburg County Coroner's office, especially Mr. Grant, for their unwavering kindness and compassion shown to them throughout this time.

Dear Susan - Terribly sad about the passing of David. Truly a great gentleman and he will be sorely missed.
That is a most beautiful video montage posted with pictures of David and your life together. It so wonderfully illustrates your love for each other and family.
In conversations with David over the years, I always enjoyed discussing his shoe business. I´ve known many business folks during my lifetime, however I´ve never met anyone who spoke of their business with the same enthusiasm as David. He thoroughly enjoyed not only the business of shoes, but beyond that a genuine caring about helping people with the safety aspect of wearing proper shoes for the job. I´m sure that his customers liked David a lot and very much appreciated his knowledge and guidance.

Everytime that I saw David he was at an event for one of his kids. Talked with him many times throughout the years and enjoyed all of our conversations. No doubt that his wife and kids were the most important things in his life. We need more fathers like David to be role models for kids. The Thompsons are praying for his family. David's passing hits me deeply. I have great memories of all the fun we had playing high school baseball together. We would sing The Cars tunes and tell jokes. He had the greatest pickoff move I've ever seen from a pitcher. Even though I haven't seen or spoken with him in 41 years I think of him often and speak of him when talking about that team. We won the state championship and he was the ace. Thanks for being a huge part of my life during those 2 years we played together. He will be greatly missed. My condolences go out to his family. I'm heartbroken to learn of David's passing. I knew David, Susan and a very young Adam, as neighbors when they lived in Shenandoah III years ago. David was always a kind and generous neighbor, always willing to help out when someone was in need. I have fond memories of conversations with David, both while standing in our yards, or much more recently, when he brought the shoe truck to BWFS. I am literally at a loss for words right now. I have few friends that were so knowledgeable and objective when talking baseball and David was one of those people. I will never forget how fondly he talked about all the activities that the kids were involved with. He was a fine Husband, Father and friend to everyone.
