Ingrid Wend, 78, of North Port, FL, previously Prospect, CT and Danbury, CT passed away Sunday, January 26, 2014.
Ingrid was born July 19, 1935, in Berlin, Germany, a daughter of the late Walter & Irma Bleich, She attended schools in Germany, graduating from Trade School to become a Beautician. She married Herman Wend, Jr. and they moved to America in 1961. Ingrid was proud of her German heritage, and was also very proud to receive her American Citizenship in 1966.
She opened her first business in Danbury, Wigs by Ingrid, then bought Merle Norman Cosmetics and combined her businesses. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and The Arion Singing Society. She was a wonderful cook and loved hosting holiday gatherings with family. She loved to read, dance, travel and share stories with family and friends. Ingrid retired as a saleswoman for Combined Insurance Co. After moving to FL, she attended the German Club in Cape Coral, FL. Ingrid & Ed owned and rented houses to a large European clientele and made numerous lifelong friends. She will always be remembered for her vivacious and friendly, outgoing personality.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Tidewell Hospice and Charlotte Harbor Healthcare for their loving care and compassion during her illness.
Ingrid was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be sadly missed by her loving and devoted partner, Ed Scholz of North Port, FL; daughter, Trixie (Charly) Slagle of New Milford; son, Herman (Dina) Wend III of Pt. Charlotte, FL; treasured grandchildren, Charly III and Stefanie Slagle; brother, Gert (Karin) Sadina of Berlin, Germany and many nieces, nephews and cousins in the US and Germany. She was predeceased by her loving husband Herman in 1997 and her beloved sister, Sigrid Urnelt.
A Celebration of her life took place in Florida on February 1, 2014.
The Funeral Service will be Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 107 Kent Rd., Rt. 7, New Milford at 11:00 A.M., with the Rev. Christian Bunzel officiating. Calling hours will be at church prior to the service, starting at 10:00 A.M. Inurnment will follow in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
