ARTHUR BOTTING Obituary

Dr. Arthur J. Botting, age 76, of Edgewater, died Wednesday at Bert Fish Medical Center. Born in Rockaway Beach, New York, Dr. Botting came to this area in 1979 from Isle of Palms, South Carolina to be a pathologist at both Halifax and Bert Fish Medical Centers. A graduate of St. John's University in New York City, Dr. Botting received his medical degree from Flower Fifth Avenue Medical School in New York City, interned at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and served his residency at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. He then served with the United States Army Medical Corps in Viet Nam. Dr. Botting was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church and the Anglers Yacht Club, both in New Smyrna Beach, and loved travel, reading, boating and fishing. Known for his infectious laughter, he especially enjoyed being with friends. Survivors include his wife, Noel; two sons, Arthur and his fiancé, Jennifer Laske, of Los Angeles, California, Chris and his wife, Jennifer, of New Smyrna Beach; a daughter, Jacqueline of Greenwich, Connecticut; a sister, Bernadette Downey of South Carolina; and three grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be 3:00 p.m. today (Friday) at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, with Father John Murray officiating. A reception will immediately follow at Smyrna Yacht Club. I served with "Little Artie" Botting at the 93rd Evac Hospital in Viet Nam, where I was a general medical officer. He was an outstanding pathologist and an all-round great person. (The photo captures his infectious personality.)

I remember Dr. Nothing from Bert Fish Hospital. He was a kind and caring person to me. If I ever had a question he would explain it to me. I left the hospital before he died but he was an amazing man who I am sure he is missed until this day. RIP Dr Botting.

Oh the fun we have had throughout the years from boating together in the Bahamas and Mosquito Lagoon, dinners at each others homes, arriving as "the Clampets" in South Carolina with the Barringers, boat shows in Miami, and the list goes on and on...we will miss you.
