Valiera Tacker

Holly Hill - Valiera Tacker, age 86, died peacefully in her sleep early Sunday morning, January 31. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and was blessed with a great number of wonderful, loving friends.

Valiera was born in Philadelphia, Pa, living there until 1946 when she moved to Miami, Fl with her parents, Tom and Valiera Courts. She moved to Daytona Beach in 1965 when Embry Riddle University, her husband's employer moved here.

Attending college as an adult, she graduated from UCF in 1979 with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She worked part-time until her children were grown, teaching and directing programs for the Association for Retarded Children and Trinity Lutheran School, then became a full-time kindergarten teacher at Ortona Elementary, retiring in 1996. Valiera was a Licensed Unity Teacher (inactive) and has been a member of United Brethren in Christ since 1998.

Valiera loved sharing in her children's activities and was a cub scout den mother, a brownie leader and Sunday School teacher. In retirement, she founded the Ormond Beach Scrabble Group, was active in her church, volunteering at the food pantry, single mother dinners, and church school, and most of all enjoyed family activities, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Throughout her life, her greatest joy and interest was in her family and friends.

She is survived by Agee, her husband of 66 years, her children Thomas Tacker and Laura Hassan, her grandchildren Nicole, Ben, and Daniel Tacker, and Ryan and Erin Hassan, and her great-grandchildren Naomi and Hannah Esere.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, February 6th at United Brethren in Christ Church, located at 560 Flomich St. Holly Hill, Florida 32117. The service can be watched live online at www.vimeo.com/ubichh. Flowers or donations to the church are welcome.
