Stephen Highfill Obituary

Stephen L. Highfill

Stephen L. Highfill, 63, of Springfield, Mo., passed away in his home Sunday, August 24, 2014. He was born on July 8, 1951 to Robert and Mary Highfill.

A lifelong resident of north Springfield, Stephen was a graduate of Hillcrest High School. For twenty six years he was married to best friend, Karen L. Highfill, who lost her battle with cancer in 2010.

He is survived by his four children; daughter, Amanda Highfill; sons, Kelly Highfill, Chad Bruton and Stephen Highfill Jr.; his mother, Mary Highfill; his sisters, Marilyn Boyle and Sharon Schroder; his brothers, Robert Kent Highfill and Brent Highfill; eighteen nieces and nephews; and countless friends and family members. He is preceded in death by his wife and father.

Stephen was a gregarious character who knew no stranger. Most of his adult life he was known by his trademark beard and his beloved "8-ball" skull caps. For twenty five years he worked at Standard Electric Steel Casting Company until the plant closing, where upon he moved to Tuthill Vacuum and Blower Systems until his retirement in 2013.

Stephen's interests knew no bounds: from Blues music to football to photography. However, Stephen's greatest joy came from spending time with friends and family. He was fiercely devoted to his mother and his 'little sis,' Amanda. He was also particularly close to his brother Kent and enjoyed the company of all his siblings. He was a committed husband and father. Stephen will be missed by many and we are better to have known him.

Family and Friends will hold a visitation from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, August 28, and a memorial service Friday, August 29, at 1 pm. Both services will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield, Mo.
