Danny was the sweetest and kindest soul. . . I had known him since middle school and I feel luck to have been reconnected with him. . . doesn't seem that long ago. Many have written it here and it's true. . . we will never forget Danny and know he's at peace.

We were so sorry to learn about Coach Dan passing. Our daughter, Alexandra, was coached by Dan for the last 6 years. Dan taught our daughter many things besides gymnastics. He taught her to do her best, never give up, work hard but have fun. Paid the girls a dollar to answer the phone wen he was busy teaching another girl. Told them the were not soccer players or softball players-- they were gymnasts- hardest sport there is on the human body. We loved Dan and respected his coaching. He will be missed and our thoughts and prayers go out to all of his family and friends.

Dan was truly a great man. He really loved his girls at the gym and put his all into them. They are all better gymnasts and stronger kids physically and mentally because of him. The girls will always remember and talk about his love for gymnastics and his animals. They also always joked about and loved the endearing nicknames he would give them, like creepy kid in the snake leotard, angry bird, though chick. We can only hope Dan has peace now and knows how much he meant to these kids and their parents and how they love him and took everything he said to heart. He inspired them and we as parents have watched over the past years the growth in our kids due in part to their coaches. We pray for these kids as well as the family he has left behind far too soon as well as pray for his peace.
RIP Dan
We love you,
The Vazquez Family - Sofie also known as the creepy kid in the snake leotard.

A very heart felt condolence is extended from the family of Bruce Busbee to the Dickey family, Roxanne, Susan, Ted, & John, and their families.
The Dickey family was like a second family to me while growing up.
I considered Mrs. Dickey as my second mother, Susan as my sister,
Ted as the older wiser brother, John as my best friend, and Danny as my little brother.
The late Carl Dickey as my 2nd father, who certianly taught John & I the greatest relaxation therapy in the world, fishing.
He also taught us how to provide for our families.
I will certianly miss Danny's since of humor, he will be missed by all.
Danny, as well as the Dickey family will be in my thoughts and prayers through this difficult time.

It is with great sadness that I write these few words. When Dan started coaching my daughter she was miserable and thought of quitting many times. As the days and weeks went on, we slowly saw a change in her that was very remarkable. She wanted to get to gym early...can never late; she never wants to miss a day of practice. And when she hears anyone saying anything negative about Dan’s toughness and training style, she would say, “Dan is not mean, he is just honest!” For the longest time, I was the only man in her life that she looked up to, and then she met Dan. Upon hearing the news of his death, she was devastated to say the least. She tried sorting out her feelings and then wrote him a letter. To read this brought much sadness and tears to my eyes. The Evans Family will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayer goes out to the Dickey Family.

My heart is aching for your family at this time of shock and sadness... Danny was such a sweet character... always a smile and a quirky joke or jesture. I was lucky enough to catch up with him not too long ago and have some laughs... He was still that same little kid I met in middle school... and I will miss him.

Our daughter Jerrica was one of Dan and Chris's gymnast's for the better part of 6 years. During that time Dan helped Jerrica achieve 3 state all around titles and a regional balance beam title. Some of our favorite memories are of trips we took to competitions. Two trips were especially memorable... Chicago Navy Pier and the time Jerrica spent with Dan in Lake Tahoe skiing after the Reno competition He was an extrodinary man and he will truly be missed. Below is a poem that Jerrica presented to Dan at one of the Gym World banquets. He beamed with pride as she read it to him. I feel his legacy is described in this poem that talks about his dedication to what he loved doing for several years. Although he is gone he will not be forgotten. RIP Dan.
In Appreciation of Your Dedication
Our coach is a person that
Pushes us to do our very best.
Our coach spends countless hours
Training and instructing without rest.
Hard work, dedication and self-sacrifice
are qualities you have instilled.
Perseverance, commitment and drive
are characteristics you’ve helped us to build.
When we go to competitions
We can hold our heads up high.
You give us the confidence it takes
To give difficult skills a try.
You set high goals for us
that you help us to achieve.
And then we get to feel the rush
when presented with awards we receive.
You’ve taught us to be fierce competitors,
Give each event our all
And not to get discouraged,
Even when we take a fall.
Our teams could not be the champs they are
Without you as our strength.
In order for us to consistently win
You’ve gone to every length.
So we want you to know we look up to you
Even though you’re sometimes tough
We could not do it without you
And we can’t thank you enough.
To Dan's Family... You will be in our thoughts and prayers.
