Keith Frost Obituary

Keith Gary Frost

He was the man with five names. He only ever used his given first name, Keith, for official business. Some people knew him by his middle name, Gary, some by his AM radio personality: Jack Frost. Friends from the early years called him Frosty. To family, he was affectionately known as Bubba. Keith-Gary-Jack-Bubba-Frosty Frost was a larger-than-life character. He was ambitious and always wanted to be the center of attention. He was funny, a life-of-the-party and never-met-a stranger type of guy. He was deeply empathetic and caring, especially for the needy and the down-trodden. He was deeply spiritual.

Born in Ohio at the end of WW II, he came to Fort Myers as a toddler and grew up in East Fort Myers. His life-long love of fishing started early when it was not just a sport but needed to put food on the table. While attending Fort Myers High School he worked part time at Orange River Auto Parts and the used auto parts industry is where he would spend most of his working career. Along the way he tried various other vocations: drummer in a band, AM radio disc jockey (starting with WMYR in Fort Myers), commercial real estate. In the late 1970's he moved to Portland, Oregon, where he remained until returning to Fort Myers in the early 2000's. He had a successful career as the head buyer for Foster Auto Parts, and also had a business rebuilding wrecked cars. He is survived by sons Greg and Jeremy.

Jack loved to fish and spent countless hours on the southwest Florida intercoastal waterways. He also fished in Alaska, Costa Rica, and along the Oregon coast. He was a life-long fan of the Florida State Seminoles and a devotee of coach Bobby Bowden.

Gary died peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of June 26, 2020. The family chose to wait for the COVID-19 pandemic to wain before having a ceremony.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, June 19, from 11am - 3pm at Doc Ford's Fort Myers Beach. Jack lived a long and adventurous life, and our intention with this event is to recall good memories, share stories, and celebrate his life. Family and friends are encouraged to join us for this informal event.
