Doris Vanaman Obituary
She was born on October 30, 1933, the oldest child of the late Eugene and Lillian Smoot of Lynchburg. She graduated from E.C. Glass High School and retired from Babcock & Wilcox in 1995 after 38 years of service. She was a charter member of Chestnut Hill Baptist Church and was currently a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church.
Some of mom's happiest moments were when she hosted family gatherings at her home for food, laughs and conversation. Everyone always left knowing they were loved and appreciated. Her family meant everything to her.
Doris is survived by her three children, David M. Vanaman (Carolyn), Dianne V. Hodges (Tom), and Stephen L. Vanaman of Lynchburg and (Kelly S. Vanaman) of Forest.
She is also survived by five grandchildren, Sherrie H. Campbell (Roger) of Lynchburg, Jeff Hodges (Jacquie) of Lynchburg, Mike Vanaman of Harrisonburg, Va., Chris Vanaman of Forest, Ana Vanaman of Lynchburg, Brian Hodges (deceased). Also, seven great-grandchildren, five great great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Howard and Marie Daughtrey (Taz) of Lynchburg, five nieces and a nephew.
Service celebrating the life of Doris will be conducted 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 8, 2023, in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory with Chaplin Susan Allen of Centra Hospice officiating, with burial to follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends an hour before service time, 1 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family wishes to thank all of Doris' friends and caregivers at the Summit Health & Rehab for the excellent care and love that was given to her. Also, a special thank you to the dedicated and compassionate hospice workers, especially Orlinka and Cheryl.
