George Wittschen Obituary

George Alfred Wittschen, 94, of Lynchburg, died January 31, 2008 at home. He was the loving husband of Marjorie C. Norem Wittschen for 62 years. Born July 16, 1913 in New York, NY, he was the only son of the late George Nicholas Wittschen and Anna Johnson Wittschen. George graduated from Polytechnic University of New York and was retired from General Electric, where he worked as a mechanical engineer for 39 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg. In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory a daughter, Sarah Ann Englander and husband, Robert Arthur Englander, Jr., of Cary, NC; a granddaughter, Dora Leigh Collins and husband, John Walter Collins, of Raleigh, NC; a grandson, Robert Arthur Englander III and fiancée, Kathryn Walker Bradley, of Fuquay-Varina, NC; great-grandchildren, Tyler John Collins and Kayleigh Juliann Collins; a sister-in-law, Carol Norem of Belvidere, IL; a niece, Julie Hawley, and husband, Rob Hawley, of Taos, NM; two nephews: Gary Norem and wife, Joan Norem, of Mesa, AZ, and Dr. Dennis Norem and wife, Julia Norem, of Rockford, IL; seven great-nephews and nieces; and four great-great-nephews and nieces. The family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, February 4, 2008, at Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory. A private inurnment will be held at First Presbyterian Church. The family suggests that those wishing to make memorials consider Hospice of the Hills, 3300 Rivermont Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24503 or First Presbyterian Church, 1215 VES Road, Lynchburg, VA 24503.
