Linwood Richardson Obituary

Linwood Delano Richardson Sr.

Linwood Delano Richardson Sr. departed this life Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born Jan. 1, 1943, to the late William A. Richardson and Cornelia Rosser Richardson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nine brothers, Talmage, Lonnie, James, Simon, Page, Grafton, Dorsett and Irvin Richardson; and four sisters, Mary Lou, Ruth, Omay and Eula Richardson.

Linwood was a member of Timothy Baptist Church. He attended Amherst County Schools and worked 29 years at Lynchburg Foundry.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Gladine Hendricks Richardson; two daughters, Anita Renee Richardson and Cheryl Michelle Richardson Sandidge (Dwane); one son, Linwood Delano Richardson Jr., all of Amherst; five grandchildren, Jasmine, Desrick, Sedric, Delano and Cetrell; one sister, Georgia Richardson Barksdale (Edward), of Lynchburg; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Timothy Baptist Church, with the Rev. Scottie Craft officiating and the Rev. Donald Rucker as eulogist. Interment will be in the church cemetery. His remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. The family is receiving friends from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Community Funeral Home and other times at the residence, 296 Richardson Drive, Amherst. The cortege will assemble at the church.
