Samuel Wayne Staples

Samuel Wayne Staples, 89, of Lynchburg, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at his residence.

Born in Lynchburg, on November 17, 1932, he was the son of the late Earl Nathanial Staples and Gladys Wright Staples. He was retired from Griffin Pipe after 38 years of service. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War and was a member of Indian Hill United Methodist Church. He loved deer hunting in Goshen Pass and enjoyed trout fishing in Goshen and the Tye River. He was also enjoyed woodworking in the shop he had at home. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, two sisters, Joan Ashworth and Millicent Tolly, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Rebecca Blankenship Staples; his son, Samuel Wayne "Chip" Staples Jr. and his wife, Nicole; one sister, Mary Lee Deal; five grandchildren, Haden Staples, Riley Staples, Taylor Verbeke, Maddie Verbeke and Emma Verbeke, and a number of nieces and nephews.

A service celebrating this life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, August 8, 2022, at Indian Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Stevens officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post 16.

The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday, August 7, 2022, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
