Dearest Denny:
It's been a long time since I signed the guest book. I feel that Daddy & I are healing from your death. I believe the intense grief is over. Don't think we are not thinking of you. Everyday, you enter our thoughs. Our love for you is eternal. We are trying to find the proper day lillies for your grave. We were visiting on Sunday afternoon. We will now be visiting Saturday afternoon. I have to call St. Charle's office to obtain again the information on the type of day lillies that they want.

We have looked at other gravesites and where we find day lillies they are growing very tall. We were very happy with the Palm Cross. The cemetary keeps the Cross up for a long time. Next year, I will buy a really large Palm Cross with a yellow background. For your birthday, we will attend Mass at Our Lady of Mercy. We will then breakfast at the Plainview Diner. You know your Mother. She is starting the Christmas shopping in August. It used to be October. She has not found an adequate floirst for the Christmas pillow.
All our love to you!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY In loving memory of our son Denny Walsh, born
on October 5, 1966

It is your birthday today.
Happy Birthday!
Can’t help thinking of you.
Wishing we could talk, laugh
And remember together.
We would sing “Happy Birthday” to you.
Watch you blow out the candles and make a wish.
We might talk of the past
And dreams of tomorrow.
Instead we shed tears as we smile,
Thinking of the gifts your life
Has given us, our family
And so many others.
Happy Birthday, Denny! We miss you.

With all our love,

Dad

My Son,

Today is Father’s Day and I feel awkward about it.
On a cold morning in January our son was born,
And I became a father.
Before that cold day ended our son was dead.
Was I a father still?
I had dreams for him,
hopes for him,
love for him, longed for him,
achingly,
as only a father could.
Did the grieving, the longing and the missing
achingly,
make me a father still,
though I now longer have the relationship or the function?
Father’s Day is here.
I am feeling confused and awkward about it.
Today is Sunday, Father’s Day.
A friend approaches me and says,
“Today must be terribly hard for you.”
Then he gives me a hug, a heartfelt embrace and says
“I’ll be thinking of you today. Happy Father’s Day.”
Suddenly, the awkwardness and confusion is gone.
I am a father.
I will always be one.

With all my love,

Nassau County Police Memorial Day - Katherine and Dennis Walsh Sr. and their granddaughter, Savannah Walsh. Savannah is Traacey and Dennis Walsh Jr.'s daughter.

A BUTTERFLY LIGHTS BESIDE US.

"A butterfly lights beside us, like a sunbeam...

and for a brief moment it's glory

and beauty belong to our world...

but then it flies on again, and although

we wish it could have stayed,

we are so thankful to have seen it at all."

THANK YOU GOD FOR OUR GIFT:A Child Loaned
"I'll lend you for a little time
A child of Mine," He said,
"For you to love the while he lives,
And mourn for when he's dead.
It may be six or seven years
Or twenty-two or three,
But will you, till I call him back,
Take care of him for Me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you,
And should his stay be brief,
You'll have his lovely memories
As solace for your grief."

"I cannot promise he will stay,
Since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught down there
I want this child to learn.
I've looked this wide world over,
In my search for teachers true.
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes,
I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love,
Not think the labor vain,
Nor hate Me when I come to call
And take him back again?"

I fancied that I heard them say,
"Dear Lord, Thy will be done,
For all the joy Thy child shall bring,
The risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness,
We'll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we've known,
Forever grateful stay.
But should the angels call for him,
Much sooner than we planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes,
And try to understand."

Dear Kathy & Dennis:

Walter told me last week of Denny's death in October 2006. I am so stunned. It was unusual not hearing from you for so long. I guess you like Walter where unable to yet discuss his death. I know how much you loved Denny and how very proud you were of him and his family. Call me and I will cry with you, I will listen to you, I will do whatever you want.

Dear Kathy,

Carol Kane told me of Denny's passing. As you know, she is my sister's daughter. I remember when I first saw him. You brought him to our house around Christmas 1966. He was an adorable baby. You were so pround of him. You took him all around your old neighborhood to show him off. My sister visted you, Denis & Denny over the years. It is so sad that both of them are now gone.
Love,

For all who love and miss him:

There are stars made for wishing
And stars made for fishing
Beneath a full moon on a long summer night
There are stars made for gleaming
And stars made for dreaming
And stars made to be just a beautiful sight
But one night a year, when it's cold and it's clear
There's a star that will shine so you're never alone
If you're lost, it will find you
And always remind you
To search for the star that will lead you back home
There are stars for romancing
And stars made for dancing
Alone in your room with the shadows you make
There are stars made for crying
For wondering why-ing
And stars that you count just to keep you awake
But one night a year you will see it appear
Like a friend you once knew that shines from above
It reminds you of laughter
And ever there after
The rest of your life it reminds you of love
Look to the stars when your sad or afraid
They will say you're not lost, no, you've just been mislaid
Know they are right, you'll be certain it's true
When there's light from the stars shinin' on you
There are stars made for falling
And stars for recalling
The names and the faces of those that you love
There are stars made for catching
And stars made for matching
Connecting the dots start a star high above
But one night a year when that star shines you'll hear
The voice of an angel who sings just for you
And so you keep dreaming
The stars keep on gleaming
And all of your wishes will keep coming true

There are stars made for wishing...

~

I can fly in my mind
to a place
peaceful and full of grace
come with me
you will see
love is there to make us whole again
a love that only love knows
go where love goes
go where your heart leads
angels are pleading with you
go there
go where love dares

gather me in your arms
hold me close like lazarus
to rise again like a bird
to fly again in flowers dreams
so love can feed your soul
love feeds your soul
love will make you whole
love makes you whole, so...
go where love goes
go where your heart leads
angels are pleading with you
go there, go where love dares
to go
love makes the rainbow
love is the dawn's glow
love makes the rose grow
reaching for heaven so...
go where love goes
go where your heart leads
angels are pleading with you
go there
go where love dares
dream how love dreams
love feeds the dreamers
angels are calling you
to go there
go where love dares...go

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

I first met Denny years ago when he and my younger brother (Jim) became best friends. Denny lived just up the block from my best friend Barbara Miller, so I would often see him and his family on my way walking or riding my bike there and home. I remember Denny as a really nice and polite kid. Recently, my father passed away and I had the fortunate opportunity of reconnecting with Denny. He was a pillar of strength and support to my family during that time. I am honored to have known such a giving and respectful man who touched so many of us with his joyful and loving ways. I also had the privlege of meeting his wife Tracey and two beautiful daughters. My deepest sympathy goes out to all of Denny's family. Denny....you were truly a part of my family and will be missed by all. May you rest in peace.

October 26, 2006

About 20 years ago Dennis called me to see if I would go out with him to meet a few girls he worked with at Geico for a drink or two in Smithtown. I was tired and said "no not really", but he was persistent and I finally gave in and went along. He introduced me to a girl named Jeanine that night.
About 5 years later I bumped into Jeanine and we remembered each other from that night and started to date. We married 5 years after that and have 2 wonderful boys. Here's to you Dennis and on behalf of my family... THANKS for being persistent!!! To Tracey and the entire Walsh family, our prayers and thoughts are with you. God Bless.

A community Friend

My deepest sympathy to the Walsh family. I worked with Dennis in the Roosevelt Weed and Seed Crime Prevention Project. Dennis was always willing to listen to the community and help when ever he could. He set the bar for Police Community relationships. We will miss him.

Dennis will always be remembered as a good person and a friend to everyone that knew him. Deservingly, he is well respected by the police dept as well as his community. I am so sad for his family and wish them all the strength to get through this.

Dennis and Horseshoes...
A couple of weeks back Dennis was over my house for Kyra's Birhtday Party and we played Horseshoes against each other. I was feeling good because I played just the other day and won four games straight and on the last game I threw 3 ringers in a row.
So I threw the first horseshoe and Dennis said, "you're not going to count that one, right?"
I said why not? He said "because your foot went past the stake."
So for the rest of the game I was concentrating on not going past the stake instead of concentrating on my throw. Needless to say Dennis beat me easily. Afterwards I complemented him on this "mental part of the game".
I miss you very deeply my friend. God Bless.

Will miss you Dennis!!!!!
