Thinking of you Leah - I was an intern at SLCD back then and you would bring your class into the art room. I hope you got the rose I placed into the ocean at Jones Beach for you - I'm thinking of your parents and brother and praying they have found peace in some way over these years.

It is now that time of year again. The sadness that I feel, Leah's family and friends feel is still there. A senseless tragedy, so many lives changed forever.
My prayers continue to be with the Hirschel family, that they will strive to celebrate Leah's life and all the good she did and to know that they still have people who love them and think of them and pray for them.
I will continue to keep them in my daily prayers.
I love you Mattie, Howard and Josh....

Dear Hirschel Family,

My thoughts and prayers are with you constantly. Weeks later, I still cannot believe this has happened. Leah brought such light to this world, and was kind in every way. I miss her dearly and always said that she had an angelic presence to her. Leah will live on through all the positive impressions she left behind with us.

Oh my God. My sweet Leah. I got the call today, weeks after the fact. I'm in complete shock, My heart is aching, and i haven't stopped crying. I would give anything to have the chance to tell you how special you were to me. I've been reading the letter you wrote to me before i left over and over again, and staring at pictures of you till my eyes go numb. I hear your voice as we sat there watching the Lacy Peterson story and talking in length about it. And i keep replaying our last conversation over and over in my head. I am so sorry baby girl. I love you and I hope you know that! My deepest sympathies go out to your family.

My heartfelt condolences go out to both the Hirschel and Walsh families. Although one family -- the Hirschel family -- is mourning the loss of their loved one Leah, the other family is mourning the loss of their happiness and joy because life will never be the same for the Walsh family. RIP Leah knowing justice will be done and that your family's loss is God's gain... another angel by His side :)

A Reminiscence

YES, thou art gone! and never more
Thy sunny smile shall gladden me;
But I may pass the old church door,
And pace the floor that covers thee.

May stand upon the cold, damp stone,
And think that, frozen, lies below
The lightest heart that I have known,
The kindest I shall ever know.

Yet, though I cannot see thee more,
'Tis still a comfort to have seen;
And though thy transient life is o'er,
'Tis sweet to think that thou hast been;

To think a soul so near divine,
Within a form so angel fair,
United to a heart like thine,
Has gladdened once our humble sphere.

To Leah's Parents, Brother and The Hirschel Family:

My husband and I would like to offer to you our heartfelt condolences, thoughts and prayers. We are so sorry that Leah was taken from you all, much, much too soon.

We prayed and hoped along with you all for Leah's safe return home.

Even though we never had the pleasure to know Leah, please know that we sincerely care and that we are heartbroken for you all.

Your daugther sounds like she was an amazing, warm young woman. Leah is now teaching from above.

In loving memory of Leah we would like to share the following poem with you all.

AFTER GLOW

I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one.

I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when day is done.

I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways.

Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.

I'd like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun

Of happy memories that I leave behind when day is done.

May your family and friends be a source of strength.

With heartfelt sympathy and love

Although we never met, I know what a special person Leah was just from the profession she choose. I have a child with disabilities who could have easily crossed paths with Leah. The dedication and rewards that come with the profession are only for the very special people who choose this path. What a sad loss for all the people whose lives Leah touched. May the knowledge that Leah is watching over all the special children that never got a chance at life help in comforting you. How proud you should be of such a special angel.

I had the pleasure of meeting Leah on several occasions over the course of the last couple of years. She is a person who I could immediately tell was a wonderful person and full of life. In speaking with her, one thing that I remember about her was that she was very, very friendly. I wish I had an opportunity to get to know her better because I can tell what a great person she was and I know that she definitely made a positive impact on everyone who knew and loved her. My condolances and my prayers are with Leah's family, friends, co-workers, the children who she has taught, and everyone else who cared for Leah. I am most certain that Leah will always continue to watch over you.
