Mary Balog Obituary

DEN MAR GARDENS — Mary Balog, 89, of 153 Washington Drive, passed away to her eternal rest Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born in Centralia, Aug. 18, 1923, she was a daughter of the late August and Helena Keninitz.

She attended Centralia schools

Mary was married in St. Mary of the Assumption Greek Catholic Church, July 20, 1946, to George "Brownie" Balog, who preceded her in death.

She was employed in many of the area's garment factories, and also worked for a short time in New Jersey. She missed her large family and returned to Centralia where she married her husband.

Mary was a true homebody and was very talented in flower arranging and decorating. She became an avid reader and enjoyed cooking, especially, her ethnic Ukrainian recipes from the coal region. One of her favorite pastimes was reminiscing about her once-in-a-lifetime trip to Europe to friends and strangers alike.

Mary is survived by a son, George, of Den Mar Gardens; a daughter, Janete, and a son-in-law, Hans Bloemen, of Leimuiden, The Netherlands. She is also survived by five siblings, Kathryn Taylor, Kathleen Andreano, Olga Jones, Stephen Keninitz and Donald Keninitz.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Roman Keninitz and John Keninitz, and three sisters, Sally Weary, Pauline Moran and Stella Sebacious.

Mary will be sadly missed for her kind and gentle soul.

George, please accept our sincere condolences at the passing of your Mother. A poem that I read on a Mother's Day card many years ago says volumes about the love between a Mother and her children.

A mother is a friend, on whom you can depend, she makes you feel you are never alone.
She has a very special way of cheering up a day,and looks upon your problems as her own.

She shares your every dream and adds to your esteem.

She helps you and does favors, big and small.

She cares with all her heart she has loved you from the start, a mother is the dearest friend of all.

All the best.

George - I don't know if you remember me but you were one of my favorite alter boys and also attended my Saturday CDC classes. Your mother was always proud of you and grateful for your continued love and support. Please accept sympathy of me and my mother, Mary. Michael Lapotsky
