Annie Neubauer Obituary

With great sorrow we announce the passing of our beautiful loving mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, friend and lifelong Alaskan, Annie Laurie Roberts Taylor Neubauer. Annie departed on Dec. 31, 2022, in Dallas, Texas.

Annie was born in Fairbanks on June 24, 1941, to Luella and Edward Lloyd Roberts, who were living in Livengood at the time. They came to Alaska from Arizona in 1937. At the time of Annie's birth, the Roberts family included two older sisters, Kathy and Janice. Brother Tom would join the family in l945. Annie was a bright, happy, positive, caring child who loved and was very much loved by her parents and siblings. She made strong lifelong friendships with the neighboring children she grew up with, and was loved by all who knew her for her warm personality and contagious, loving smile.

Annie attended grade school at Immaculate Conception Church and graduated from Lathrop High School in l959. She often spoke of the jobs she had as a teenager, working at the Lacey Street and Empress theaters in downtown Fairbanks. As a young woman she also worked at Montgomery Ward store. Annie attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks and worked at the Geophysical Institute. She often would recall the wonderful people she met there during that time.

Annie married Kirk Taylor when she was 20 years old, and the couple welcomed their daughter, Laurie, the next year. Annie was a warm loving new mother and wife. In 1967 she married Jon Neubauer, and they welcomed daughter Christine in January of 1969 and Natalie in January of 1978.

As an adult, Annie was always a hard worker and excelled at all of her jobs. She worked at National Bank of Alaska, where she rose to head the Mortgage Loan Department in Fairbanks.

She later worked at the State of Alaska LIO office, eventually taking on the lead position there. During all this time she took on the additional duties of bookkeeping and payroll for the Boatel Bar, which she and Jon owned and operated. After Jon's death, Annie continued ownership of the Boatel with assistance of her daughters Chris and Natalie. Annie had many friends and co-workers who cared for her and valued her friendship. She was highly respected in the Fairbanks community and will be missed by all who had the good fortune of knowing her.

Annie was very close to all her family members, and the death of her two older sisters, Kathy and Janice, were especially difficult times for her, as was the passing of her husband Jon in 2003.

Through everything however, Annie was a wonderful, proud, devoted and supportive mother and grandmother. She prioritized her children and grandchildren over everything else, and they were at the center of her life. It was a privilege to have had her as our mother, and thankful that our children had the experience of having a wonderful grandmother while she was on this Earth.

Annie's memory will be forever cherished by daughter Laurie Weyanna, and her children Ricky Monsey, Joey Monsey and Grace Weyanna; daughter Chris Neubauer( husband Tom English) and children Brian and Molly Forrest; and daughter Natalie Neubauer (husband Raleigh Johnson); brother, Tom Roberts (wife Bonnie); and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Annie's life will be held in June of 2023 in Fairbanks.

Rest in peace, Mom.

So sad to think of Annie being gone. I remember her from my youth as a gentle, sweet caring soul. I remember running into her in the airport after visiting Natalie in college and telling me she loved a moment of her trip where she laid in the grass looking up at the clouds and felt such a beautiful happy peace ..... it was pure bliss she told me. Rest in peace dear sweet Annie, my sincere condolences to the family.
