Mark Herzberg

1955 - 2022

Mark Herzberg, 67, of Fairbanks, Alaska, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022, in his home.

Mark Alan Herzberg was born March 4, 1955, in Minot, North Dakota. He was the youngest child of six children born to Leslie and Lillian (Carlson) Herzberg. He was raised in Carpio, North Dakota, and graduated in 1973 as a proud Carpio Cardinal alumni.

In his younger years, Mark was an active singer and athlete, excelling in football, basketball and choir during his high school career and beyond. In 1978, he moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, with his nephew, Monty Rostad, looking for adventure and opportunity. Although for many years he considered himself to be a "shower singer" - his talent lay far beyond the confines of the shower. Mark won multiple singing competitions throughout his lifetime and even recorded a country top 100 hit, "Hurtin' Time," with Nashville-based Evergreen Records in 1991. However, Alaska had won Mark's heart and he laid his roots for good in Fairbanks, Alaska, going on to eventually sing with a band called RPM for many years. Mark worked on the senior management team at Big Ray's for 40 years. Mark was a faithful member of the Moose Family Fraternity for many years and actively served in multiple capacities.

Mark was many things to many people - a son, brother, husband, dad, papa and friend - but to all he was one of the most kind and generous people you could know. Mark was always prepared with a ready smile and genuine care for those around him, to the stranger or friend. Mark made those in his presence at ease and at peace. Mark enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling, singing, reading, eating food made by Bobby and Rena Nikolaides, watching his sons and grandchildren play sports, snuggling babies and puppies, and spending time with his family.

Surviving family includes: children, Matthew (Sarah) Herzberg of Fairbanks, Nickolas (Rebecca) Herzberg of Fairbanks; grandchildren, Olivia Herzberg and Emmett Herzberg (Matthew and Sarah), and Barrett Herzberg (Nickolas and Rebecca); sisters, Darlene Rostad and Joanne (Steve) Branson; and several nieces and nephews.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Janice Halseth; brothers, Ronald Herzberg and Jerry Herzberg; brothers-in-law, Bob Halseth and Glenn Rostad; and sister-in-law, Sharon Herzberg.

Memorial service: Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Fairbanks, Alaska, with reception to follow at Bobby's Downtown starting at 5 p.m. All who knew and loved Mark are welcome.

Interment: Birch Hill Cemetery, Fairbanks, Alaska, at a later date.

Visitation: There will be no reviewal, but friends may sign the memorial book at both the memorial service and reception to follow.
