Matthew Cockrell Obituary

Matthew Warren Cockrell was born July 5, 1990, in Fairbanks, to Carmen Cockrell and Michael Mutschler. He was raised and attended school in North Pole.
He grew up playing and mastering video games and developed a love for board games. When Matt was not working, he enjoyed playing various tabletop miniature games, which included Warhammer 40k at The Comic Shop and custom painting miniature figures for his army. He was outgoing and adventurous. Being a lifelong Alaskan, his time not gaming or working would be spent outdoors fishing or hunting. During the recent summers, you could find him following in his dad's footsteps, volunteering at the Salcha Fair.
Matt was a genuine person with a heart of gold. He was always true to himself with every person he encountered. He was the best son, always helping his mother with different tasks around her home. He was a loving and caring brother, and, in time, became an amazing uncle. He was the most generous, loyal and kind person who truly cared about his family and friends. He meant so much to so many people and always left a meaningful impression.
Matthew joins in heaven his father, Michael Mutschler; paternal grandparents, Ray and Gay Olmstead; maternal grandparents, Warren and Madeleine Cockrell; and maternal uncle, Joe Schott. He leaves behind his mother, Carmen Cockrell; sister and brother-in-law, Amanda and Steve Offenborn; brother, Logan Davis; significant other, Chelsea Meindl; nieces Kallie, Saiya and Ella; maternal uncles, Pat and Art; paternal uncles and aunts, Larry, Tracy, Rondi, Jodi, Heidi, Kim and Kelly; and many cousins.
Matthew's family would like to thank everyone who joined us for his celebration of life. The amount of support from friends and co-workers during this sad time truly has been a blessing. Remember, there is always someone who cares and will listen; please give them the opportunity to help. An awareness plaque will be displayed at The Comic Shop in Matthew's memory. Donations for the plaque can be made in his name at Alaska USA.

To the family: I am so sorry for your loss. To Michael, I know you welcomed him with open arms in heaven and you guys are having a blast together. I will never forget Matthew. He was an amazing person and had a heart of gold. The year he helped us while we bartend at the fair was a day I will never forget. Nor the many times I was around him. He left an imprint on everyone's heart that he came in contact with. May God look down on the family during this hard time and bring them some peace in knowing he is with his father and they now have 2 angels looking down on them daily to protect them. I love you Carmen and Amanda and wish I could be there for you in this difficult time. Rest In Peace Matthew.
