Patricia Anne Carroll

1941 - 2021

Patricia Anne Carroll, 79, went peacefully to her Lord and Savior on May 5, 2021, after a long journey with dementia. Patricia was born in Fort Yukon on Aug. 12, 1941, the first daughter to Clifton and Alice Carroll.

She grew up in Fort Yukon with her 12 siblings. She then attended boarding school at Mt. Edgecombe in Sitka. She lived in Fairbanks and Anchorage for many years. In 1983, she moved back to Fairbanks, where she enjoyed cooking, hunting, snowmachining, riverboat racing and spending time at the cabin in South Fork with Jerry Evans. She also enjoyed working alongside her sister, Jeanne Carroll, and her brother, Marvin Carroll, at the David Salmon Tribal Hall on Sundays. She also had an enormous love for her dogs, Sissy, Misty and Bubba Bones, whom she rescued from the wilderness on the way to the cabin in South Fork.

Patricia worked in Anchorage for the Municipality of Anchorage and then moved back to Fairbanks and worked for the University of Fairbanks until retiring in 2005. Pat spent her remaining days in the loving care of the Fairbanks Pioneer Home.

Patricia is survived by her children, Richard VanHatten, Bob and Michelle VanHatten, and Tina and Walter Williamson; her grandchildren, Sarah Cox, Sam VanHatten, Nathan Peter, Daniel VanHatten, Brandon VanHatten, Kyle VanHatten and Kasandra Slatten; and her great-grandchildren, Zoe Wagner and Kailtynn Cox; her siblings, Marvin Carroll, Florence Carroll, Alice Burk, Dorothy Clark (Gary), Donald Carroll, Donna Carroll, Jerry Carroll, along with many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Patricia was preceded in death by her mother and father, Alice and Clifton Carroll; her siblings, Clifton Jr., (Bumps), Emil Carroll, Mike Carroll, Annette McCarty and Jeanne Carroll; and her son, William (Bill) VanHatten.

A viewing and service will be held Saturday, May 8, at Fairbanks Funeral Home, 3704 Erickson Ave., Fairbanks, Alaska, across from Sophie Station. Viewing at 1 p.m. with the service starting at 2 p.m.

She will be laid to rest in the Birch Hill Cemetery in Fairbanks.
