Stanley Hendrickson Obituary

Stanley Brian Hendrickson Sr. was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia, on Nov. 13, 1953, to Jack Sr. and Doris Hendrickson.

He graduated from Parkersburg South High School in West Virginia in 1972. Stanley married Peggy Copen at the Ruble Church in Wirt County, West Virginia, on Nov. 10, 1972. Their first child, Stanley Jr., was born on Feb. 12, 1974. Stanley followed his older brother, Jack, to Fairbanks, Alaska, in 1975. On May 26, 1978, their second child, Jonathan, was born. Stanley passed away surrounded by close friends and family on Aug. 9, 2025.

Stanley is preceded in death by his mother, Doris, and father, Jack Sr., as well as his older brother, Jack Junior. Stanley is survived by his sister, Pam; wife, Peggy; sons Stanley Jr. (Julie) and Jonathan (Marina); and grandkids, Jarrett, Cameron and Jessica, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Stanley Hendrickson, famously known as "Big Stan" amongst those fortunate enough to have known him, was an avid outdoorsman and talented pool player. The lodge where he raised his family, which is located at 66 mile Steese highway, is the lodge that most locals recognize as the one with the yellow monster truck in the front yard. Big Stan was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 23. He started working at Holaday-Parks in Fairbanks in May of 1981 and continued to work there for 34 years until his retirement in 2015.

Big Stan was a hard worker, quintessential mountain man, a loving husband, a reliable father and an outstanding grandfather. He will be remembered for his Big Stan stature and pool shooting talent.

Please come celebrate his life with us at 2 p.m. Aug. 24, 2025, at the Spur, 537 Gaffney Road, in Fairbanks, Alaska.

I always enjoyed discussing visiting with Stan at Holaday-Parks and discussing projects with him. Later I had the good fortune to run into him a couple while ice fishing on the Chatanika. He was always easy to be around and I'll miss seeing him around town. I crossed paths with him in town recently and am grateful that I was able to visit him one last time. My sincere condolences to the family. He will be missed.

I was so sorry to hear of Stan Sr.'s passing. My heart and prayers are with his family during this difficult time-I wish you comfort and strength in the days ahead. Stan Sr. was always so kind to our family, and he never failed to bring a smile to our faces, especially when teasing Ben and our son. It was truly a pleasure and an honor to have known him, even in the small moments during our years in Fairbanks. He will be deeply missed. Sending love, hugs, and prayers to Peggy and the entire family.
