Steven Homan Obituary

Steven R. Homan 67, passed away suddenly at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital with a short bout of cancer on May 18, 2022.

Steven was born on March 21, 1955, in Yakima, Washington. He came to Alaska with his parents when he was 6 months old. He attended Nordale and Joy elementary schools. He went to Main Junior High and then Ryan Junior High the first year it opened. He graduated from Lathrop High School in 1973.

He worked at Market Basket as a box boy and then he moved to the bakery. Later when he was older and got his driver's license, he worked on the trans-Alaska pipeline at the age of 16. He worked at several pump stations as a service oiler and tire man. He worked for Darlene Brown as a tire man and sometimes as an excavator. He worked in Valdez, Delta and for pump stations 5, 6 and 8. After he left the pipeline, he worked for Frontier Transportation as a mechanic and tire man. His dog Maximillian was a guard dog in the yard. They both worked at night. Max got a check for being a guard dog and Steven would take Max to Burger King after cashing his check to get a cheeseburger.

After working the pipeline and various other jobs,he was a mechanic out of his home shop for many years. He took care of his mother Helen until she passed away in 1991. Steven was also a member of the Fairbanks Drag Racing Association, which later became the Fairbanks Racing Lions, for almost 30 years. He taught his wife Virginia how to drag race and was the happiest with life when he was drag racing.

He was a very kind and gentle man who will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Virginia McCotter; three stepdaughters, Victoria Abrambs, Amanda Williams and Sandra and Dextor Simon; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Mike and Dale Homan; a sister, Denise Anderson; brother-in-law George Anderson; nephew Shane Anderson; and three nieces Patricia, Stephanie and Jennifer Homan. He is survived by eight grandnieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father Delmer and Helen and brother Delbert Homan and well as his nephew Shawn Anderson. The family requests no flowers to be sent. There will be a celebration of life later this summer at his family residence. Contact Virginia McCotter for more information. There will be no funeral service. He was cremated at Legacy Chapel of Chimes.

Steve was every bit of a dad to me and my sisters as any man could have been. Considering he had no biological children of his own he accepted me and my sisters wholeheartedly and loved us as his own. He loved our mother as much as a person is capable to love another human being and he took care of her as we grew and left the nest. Steve was always there to give us tough love and wholesome advice. I love you dad and miss you everyday.
