Charles Edward Broughton, III, 80, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2019. He was born April 22, 1939 in Durham County to the late Charles Edward Broughton, II and Louise Briley Broughton. He worked as an underwriter for Nationwide Insurance.
Visitation 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Friday, May 10, 2019 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale.
Surviving: son, Charles "Chip" Edward Broughton, IV and wife, Holly; daughter, Donna Flynn and husband, Jim; brother, Ray Broughton and wife, Sheila; nieces: Tonya Higgins, Kim Hill and Louise Jenkins.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Wade Broughton and sister, Janet Whitehead.

I worked with Mr. Broughton (could not call him Charlie to his face--to much respect for him) for many years. Charlie was a hard worker and expected all to be the same and was many times stern. But he was fair, helpful and cared as much about his job as anyone I had every kown. I learned a great deal from him and am greatful for the opportunity I had for that. My condolences to his family, you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Very sad to hear about the passing of Charlie. He was a dear friend and work associate for many years at Nationwide. Charlie was devoted to his work, his friends but most importantly to his family. I recall many times he loved taking his Mother out for meals. I will cherish the many memories of fishing and playing friendly card games with Charlie. I worked with Charlie for many years at Nationwide and always found him to be a man of humor and laughter. He was a cut-up and was thought well of by all who knew him. He will be remembered with great fondness. May he rest in peace.
