Scott was my Grand Master (and Grand Poobah) and initiated me in to the fraternity in my freshman year at Chapel Hill in 1988, ... and I can still vividly hear his voice and funny laugh and see his kind and welcoming smile in my mind 21 years later. The House, the Lake Norman community, the city, the Tar Heel faithful, God's faithful and the world will miss him. I am truly sorry for your loss and wish I could be there in person today to share it; he is gone so soon from all of us. Others, however, are warmly welcoming his arrival to a more beautiful and permanent Carolina blue home in heaven and warm hands are guiding him along his way.

Always working, always friendly, always polite and respectful to all. This is the way I will remember your dear son.My prayers are with you both.

Dear Mr and Mrs Hinkle,

I was shocked to hear of Scott's passing. I was his fraternity brother in Chapel Hill. I remember taking a picture of Scott painting the bathroom stalls at the house (must have been a pledge project). I wish we had spent more time together; however I have good memories of our time together at Chapel Hill. He was such a friendly person. I think of him often and will miss his jovial spirit.

Scott had asked me to be the editor at LKN Times in the mid 1990s but I turned him down because I was pursuing graduate school. I wrote for the competition but he was a tough act to match; very genuine and full of integrity. I am sorry for your loss.

As a fraternity brother of Scott's, my only regret is that we only overlapped one year at the fraternity house (he was a senior when I joined).
