Gina DeBose Obituary

Our beloved and cherished mother, sister and daughter Gina Michelle DeBose passed away the morning of August 17th at the age of 57 due to complications related to stage 3 ovarian cancer.

Born to Mary Virginia Henry and Larry Thomas DeBose in Burgaw, NC, she was an incredibly accomplished, well respected and loved public school teacher, holding a bachelor's degree from UNCW. A staunch believer in the power of education for all, that a child is much more than a standardized test score, she was the heart of the Wakefield Middle School community for her tenure at the school. A National Board Certified Teacher, Teacher of the Year 2018, Student Council/ Leadership Advisor, Yearbook Advisor, mentor, friend, advocate, and all around bada** human.

A fierce warrior queen with a brilliant sense of humor, she loved to paint and play cards- gin rummy to be exact. She was happiest at the beach or sitting with her fur babies; Punkin and Luca. While she was religious in her way, her church was truly apprised of those she loved; her friends and family.

Gina is survived by daughter (actress) Ariana DeBose, sister Crysti DeBose, her afore mentioned parents, step mother Debbie DeBose, and her dear Chris, Tristan, Giselle, Lennix, and CJ.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that donations be made to the following organizations specializing in ovarian cancer research and social services for those living through and learning to thrive with cancer.

We had the pleasure to know Gina through school and through friends. She was a smart, caring no nonsense woman. I wish there were many more like her. Sadly people like Gina are few and far between. We are thinking of and praying for your family and hoping fond memories can comfort you at this sad time.

I recall Mary speaking proudly of Gina and Ariana. The beautiful pictures. The love of a daughter and granddaughter as displayed by Mary brightened up my work days at Southeastern Mental Health Center.
