I.J. Skinner Obituary

I.J. “Buzz” Skinner passed away at home on Friday, October 22, 2010.
He was born in Durham, N.C. on June 20, 1953 to the late Dr. Benjamin Smith Skinner and Evelyn Heinmann Skinner.
Buzz graduated from Durham High School in 1971. He received his bachelor’s degree from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1975. He was the President and C.E.O. of IJS Corporation, a commercial general contracting business in Raleigh, N.C.
He will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He also took great pride in his summer garden, sharing its bounty with his many friends and neighbors. Buzz was a hard working businessman and a caring employer, a loyal friend who liked nothing better than to spend time with family and friends especially at the NC coast. He lived life the way it was meant to be lived, with gusto. Buzz never knew a stranger, and as long as everyone else around him was happy, he was happy.
Buzz is survived by his wife of 30 years, Susan Perry Skinner; two daughters, Margaret Elizabeth Skinner of Raleigh, and Molly Rachel Skinner of New York. He was predeceased by a brother and is also survived by two sisters, his brothers and sisters-in-law, his father-in-law, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Susan, Maggie and Molly extend their deepest gratitude to the many family and friends who have supported Buzz during his battle with cancer.
A celebration of Buzz’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Friday, October 29, 2010 at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Rd., Raleigh, NC 27608.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations be made to Navigate Cancer Foundation, 5448 Apex Parkway #328, Apex, NC 27502; navigatecancerfoundation.org or to Hospice of Wake Co., 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 in memory of Buzz.

Susan, Maggie and Molly,
We were all so sad to hear of about Buzz. I cannot see Long Island Iced Tea on a menu, without thinking of him; nor do I enjoy a "great day for soccer" without him in mind. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all in this time and in the days to come.
Sallie, Bill, Spencer, Mr. and Mrs. Martin
