Joseph Sakaye Obituary

Joseph Murray Sakaye

Midway, UT —Joseph Murray Sakaye, age 78 passed away peacefully at his daughter's home in Heber City, Utah Feb. 20, 2017. Joe passed away from lung cancer that he had been battling for the past two years.

He was born Dec. 2, 1938 in Great Falls, Montana to Kay Sakaye and Ella Hirose. Joe moved to Utah in 1971 and started his own drywall company, Sakaye & Sons Drywall. Him and his wife Beverly raised their children in Utah until his retirement in 2006 when Joe and Bev moved back to their beloved Montana for the next chapter in their lives. He was a great husband, father, brother, and friend to everyone who knew him. His strong and caring nature is what kept him going to overcome any obstacle in his way. He was happiest when he was fishing, hunting and helping family and friends.

Joe is survived by his wife of 54 years Beverly Sakaye, children John Sakaye, and Joe Wetzel (Annie) from Great Falls, Montana, Jody Nicol from Heber City, UT, Darlene Deloris Cyril, Joe Gray and Carolyn Kay Gray (Carlson) from Alaska, sister Nancy (Fred) from Kentucky and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

I met Joe after he got out of the service in GF. He shared a lot of stories and tales. Always ready to give you a bad time or play a prank on you. He was hard working and fun to be with. A true friend who always had your back. He was working construction and the most physically fit guy in our group. This was in the 1960 to 1963 time frame. I left for the Army in 1963 and didn't return to MT until 1994. I wish I had known he was back in Montana.

I was sad to hear about his death and his lung cancer. I want to especially thank Jody Nicol for the loving care she gave him the last 2 years of his life. Surrounded by a loved one is the best way one could go. You are an angel.

I am so sorry about Joe. I grew up with Joe on the Westside. We had alot of fun together. I was at his house and he was at mine ,and we played in the Great Northern Yards with a few kids in the area.
We went to movies and got into trouble sometimes.
I saw Joe a few times after he got out of the service,
then I lost track of him after that. I didn't know he lived in Sun River or I would have looked him up.
I wish I would have got to see him more over the years.

A great memory of mine that always brought humor to me was when Joe as a classmate in the 5th grade at Franklin grade school, he told the class that next Monday he would stand on one hand and whistle Dixie. We all could not wait for this exhibition.
Monday came and Joe did exactly what he said he would do, however it was completely different than what we had all expected.
He put one hand on the floor and then stepped on it and whistled Dixie. We all had a great laugh.
My condolences to Joe's family he was a good friend.
