Joshua Johnson Obituary

Joshua Cornell Johnson
June 8, 1980 - August 21, 2013
Durham
On Tuesday night, August 20th, 2013, NC skies shined with a seldom seen "once in a blue moon". The next day, we lost ours...Joshua Cornell Johnson.
Sweet Joshua lived through so much in his 33 years. He had just come home. He was doing so well and getting his feet under him again. Joshua made a career as a cook and could wow everyone when he whipped up his garlicky vinaigrette. He knew his way around a kitchen. He was considering a new career and had completed electrical training at Piedmont Community College this past June. His life was coming together well. He was happy and hopeful. You could see it on his face by his infectious wide grin.
Josh was loved so. He was born in Durham on June 8th, 1980 to Mary Joann Gurry Johnson and Harry Cornell Johnson III. Joshua's father along with his life partner, Kerstin Nygard; great-grandmother, Helen Molina; and grandmother, Marlene Johnson all shared in raising Josh. They will miss the confident man he had become. Josh was the first. As the first son, grandson, great-grandson, great-nephew, and nephew, big brother, and eldest cousin Joshua was a mentor to his younger brothers, sister, and cousins. His young nieces and nephews will miss their Uncle Josh who was always eager to horse and play with them and his dog Shadow. Left is a tender void in his huge extended family. Left are scores of dear friends. God bless him and those he loved.
Donations in memory of Joshua C. Johnson can be made to the Eno River Association online at www.enoriver.org /support-us/join-us/ or mailed to 4404 Guess Road in Durham, NC 27712.
A service in celebration of Joshua's life will be held on Saturday, September 14th, 2013 at Pleasant Green Community Center in Durham at 2:00 PM. Following the service the family invites you to share in a potluck dinner. Please bring a side or dessert. Come and join Joshua's family and friends to share our love and stories of Joshua.

I'm still having a hard time using the past tense when speaking of you. I miss you too much Josh. In your absence, the world has changed a bit, never to be the same again. Keep smiling on us Big Josh.

To the family of this precious child… I am so sorry for your tragic loss. Although I do not know your family personally, I am all too familiar with the pain and confusion you are facing. I am a bereaved parent of four years. As you are able, there is a lifeline for those of us on this journey. “Compassionate Friends” is a group of bereaved parents that has truly been my source of survival. We meet twice a month, not as a therapy group… just those who fully understand and offer hope. Our main number is 919-833-4022. Please call.
