Mary Thornton Obituary

Mrs. Mary Lou Johnson Thornton, 94, of 1200 Reedy Prong Church Rd. died Sunday at Wake Medical Center in Fuquay-Varina where she had resided for the last nine and half years.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home chapel in Benson. Officiating will be Rev. Robert Capps. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery, Benson.
Mrs. Thornton was born May 23, 1913 in Johnston County to the late Brady and Valeria Tart Johnson. She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband, the late Perry Thornton. Mrs. Thornton was also preceded by brothers, Theodore Johnson, Loren B. Johnson, and Marvin Johnson; sisters, Kilty J. Barefoot and Luna J. Black.
Surviving include daughter and son-in-law, Winifred T. and Roland Wood of Benson; son, Charles Thornton of Newton Grove; four grandchildren and spouses, Michael P. and Dae Wood of Benson, Mary Beth and Scott Rhodes of Newton Grove, Suzanne and Jeremy Rhodes of Four Oaks, and Charles Perry and Tina Thornton of Newton Grove; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Rhodes, Mary Michael Wood, Mary Scott Rhodes, and Anna Thornton; several nieces and nephews.
family received friends 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Monday at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson, and at other times at the home of Roland and Winifred Wood, 2500 Beasley Rd., Benson, NC.
The Thornton family would like to thank all the doctors and caregivers at Wake Medical Center in Fuquay for all the love and care Mrs. Thornton received.
Flowers are welcomed; however memorial may be made to one's favorite charity.
