Rebecca Perry Sink
February 27, 1959 - April 21, 2025
Raleigh, North Carolina - Rebecca Perry Sink, age 66, passed on Easter Monday, April 21 in the comfort of her loving family.
Born on February 27, 1959 in Washington, D.C. to Pastor James N. and Shirley Perry, her father's pastoral calling led the family through several small towns, each shaping her early childhood with a strong sense of community and a heritage of faith. The family settled in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1969, where she attended Broughton High School. There, she was asked to the Queen of Hearts dance by Robert Sink, who would eventually become her best friend and the love of her life.
Bob and Becky married in October 1983, shortly after graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and went on to have three children. She is remembered as a loving, devoted mother and wife, and she was known for her sweet spirit, quiet kindness, love of animals (she would often "Google" videos of monkeys her childhood dream was to own one), and spunky one liners. Her family and closest friends knew that she came alive in the garden, where her love for birds, flowers, and trees, and, over time, her talent for patiently growing beauty out of nothing were front and center.
Becky had a steadfast, quiet faith that God used to sow in her a heart of service that extended well beyond the garden. She was meek and selfless, never seeking recognition for making a meal, running an errand, or simply offering a listening ear to those she loved. She was a woman of few words but those she spoke were profound. And her laugh was infectious.
For the last 2 years of her life, Becky suffered bulbar ALS, a neurodegenerative disorder that resulted in the loss of her speech, movement, and breathing over time. Even in the midst of the diagnosis, Becky's heart for family, serving others, and the garden continued. God's strength in her through the slow loss of all she held dear, and eventually her life, was extraordinary. She was cared for with grace by her family, caregiver Rhonda Williams, and Arosa and Carolina Circle of Joy home care even until her last day.
Becky will be dearly missed by her husband, Robert, their children, Jared Sink (Jessica), Natalie Yerger (David), and Molly Lingafelt (Luke), her grandchildren, Austen Sink, Anson Sink, Becklyn Sink, Nathaniel Yerger, Margaret Lingafelt, and Parker Lingafelt, and her extended family.
A visitation to share memories and offer condolences will be held 4-6 p.m. on Friday, May 2 at Summit Blue Ridge Church at 3249 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh, N.C. 27612. A celebration service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 3 at Summit Blue Ridge.
