Robert Winstead Obituary

Robert "Skippy" Winstead, 85 passed away Friday, July 7th, surrounded by his family. A celebration of his life will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday, July 15th at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church, 2209 Fairview Rd. Raleigh NC. Visitation will follow the service.
Skippy was born in Roxboro, N.C., the son of Cliff and Rosa Winstead, one of their six children. After graduating from Roxboro High School in 1950, he pursued his education and his love of playing basketball at the University of North Carolina. Skippy was the original UNC guard with the number 23 jersey that is now "retired." He also served in the US Army and was station in Germany. After a long career at IBM, he retired to spend time with his family and friends, play golf and watching sports.
His parents and four of his siblings, Cliff Winstead, Bill Joe Winstead, Ethel Beckham and Frances Winstead, precede him in death. He is survived by his brother Jim Winstead (Sandy) and wife, Dorothy Winstead, three daughters Diana Rowland (David), Alexa Winstead, Rachel Kendall (Mac) and grandchildren Stephanie Bennett (Brad), Logan, Peyton, and Ashton Kendall and great grandchildren, Abbie and Cole Bennett.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Johnston Health Foundation c/o SECU Hospice House. PO Box 1376, Smithfield, NC 27577.
