Steve Bryan Obituary

Steve Bryan

Raleigh

Steve Bryan, age 45, of Raleigh, died January 25, 2017, after a brief battle with cancer.

Steve was born November 6, 1971, in Paramus, NJ, to Jim and Mary Ann Bryan. He was raised in Anderson, SC and graduated from Westside High School. He continued to Auburn University, graduating in 1993. Steve moved to Raleigh shortly after, where he met his wife Chase, while volunteering at Artsplosure. The organization quickly became part of the family, with Steve serving on the board for 15 years. Focused primarily on project management, Steve worked for IBM, Nortel Networks, and since 2009, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA)

Steve is survived by his wife Chase Holcombe Bryan, and daughters, Sutton and Elliott, of the home; his parents, Jim and Mary Ann Bryan; and his sister, Kathy Major, her husband Danny and their children, all of Anderson.

To celebrate his life, family and friends will gather at The Stockroom at 230, 230 Fayetteville St, from 5 - 8 pm Saturday, February 11.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Artsplosure at www.artsplosure.org/stevebryan or 313 S. Blount St., Suite 200B, Raleigh, NC 27601. Friends are also encouraged to donate blood to the American Red Cross in Steve's name.

We so appreciated Steve's energy and enthusiasm in leading Big Sweep litter cleanups of Rocky Branch in the Boylan Heights community in partnership with Truett Thompson and all his neighbors.

Steve will be sorely missed!

Michael and I feel so fortunate to have spent time on many a New Year's Eve and during Artsplosure festivals with Steve and the wonderful women in his family, all of whom he clearly loved truly and deeply. It is difficult to exaggerate what a profound loss this is to Raleigh and its arts community, to his neighborhood, and especially to his family. Steve was tremendously professional in his paid work as well as in his volunteer appointments, and it will not be easy to replace such a committed soul and knack for numbers and hard work. Mostly, though, it will be impossible to replace that friendly smile and genuine personality. Steve will be greatly missed, and his memory will live on in his beautiful daughters and in the significant projects in which he participated. Chase, Sutton, Elliott, and all of your other family members, please accept our deepest sympathies.
