Whit Neville Obituary

Whit Neville, Jr.
October 30, 1943 - July 13, 2022
Cary, North Carolina - Whit Nelson Neville, Jr., 78, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at Wake Medical Center. Whit was born October 30, 1943, in Littleton, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Whit Nelson Neville and Viola Champion Liles, his sister, Mamie Neville Best, and his beloved stepfathers, Bernard Bobbitt and William Liles. He was a humble, selfless, devoted husband, father, father-in-law, brother- in-law, uncle and friend who will be dearly missed.
Whit is survived by his loving wife and high school sweetheart, Betty West Neville, his sons, Robert Neville and wife, Treva of Roanoke Rapids, and Nelson Neville, of the home. He will be forever loved and remembered by his three grandchildren, Jill, Jessica, and Jack Neville of Roanoke Rapids. Whit, also, is honored with bonus children from the Fahey family and Jeff Combs, several nieces, nephews, the best sister and brother in laws, and many dear colleagues and friends.
Whit grew up in Littleton, NC and spent most of his adult life in Cary, NC. He graduated from Littleton School in 1965. He spent his scholastic years playing high school football, working at his father's service station, and cruising around town.
Whit married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Betty, on July 10, 1964. He graduated from Atlantic Christian College with a BS in Accounting in May 1971. Whit retired from Capital Broadcasting Co. in Raleigh after 34 years. He said he had played all the golf he wanted, so returned into the work force, working for H&R Block for 14 years. He did this all while continuing to serve in accounting and leadership roles at Ben's Creek Nursery, a company he founded with his son, Robert and brother-in-law, Philip West in 1996. He was instrumental in the growth and expansion of the company throughout the years. He cultivated lifelong friendships with many colleagues throughout the years and was a loyal employee wherever he worked.
Whit was the epitome of what a father and grandfather should be. He was so proud of his sons, and grandchildren, and he loved to spend time with his family more than anything. He looked forward to the yearly family beach vacation weeks. He spent many years golfing with colleges and friends and was passionate about the game of golf.
Whit was an exemplary leader who provided support, love, and encouragement to everyone he met, often with a dose of humor.

I just found out about Whit today. I am heart broken. He has done my taxes for many years. I was calling to set up an appointment with him and was told he had passed away in July!!! This devastated me. He was such a nice and funny guy. He will be missed I wish I had known. His funeral was on my birthday. Wow!! Just a great humble guy. My prayers go out to his family. Rest In Peace Whit. So sad. My condolences.
