Marlene Macelhenny Obituary

July 18, 1943 - July 30, 2016

When Marlene walked into a room her infectious smile, warm heart and contagious laughter would fill the room. She was the friend that would never forget your birthday, regardless of where she was. She would always look you deep in your eyes and truly be present with you. She was always smiling and always filled with laughter.

Born in Santa Barbara, Marlene stood proud as a Don! She was a beauty on the cheerleading team and held court for Homecoming. After High School she got whisked away to fly for World Airlines flying all over Asia and flying Vietnam War troops home. After her jet setting days overseas, Marlene returned to Santa Barbara to pursue her real estate career. Marlene was married briefly and she always described it as the happiest day of her life. But marriage was not for this free spirit with Joie de Vivre! She was passionate about her collecting. During her career wearing many hats, she traveled far and wide to find the best Eastern European cut crystal. She loved Paris and she would return with beloved large scale perfume bottles. She collected spaniel figurines from Antique Staffordshire of England and more!

She was a lover of animals, and would never turn away a rescue or friend in need. All of her animals had her signature pink fur on their nose?s, from her endless kisses with her signature Chanel rose lipstick.

Marlene sadly succumbed to cancer this past Saturday, surrounded by her family and friends. She was treated with the best care from Casa Rhoda, Dr. Mietus and Hospice. They are true angels. Marlene joins her animals, her parents, her niece Erin, her brother Bernie and friends she has lost in Heaven. She is survived by her niece Catherine MacElhenny Dann and her nephew Michael MacElhenny. A service for Marlene will be held at Our Lady Of Sorrows, on August 15th at 10am. All are welcome to celebrate her life. A private burial for family and close friends at Calvary Cemetery will follow.

Arrangements entrusted to McDermott-Crockett.

My heart is broken. Marlene and I became friends in junior high and stayed friends through out the years. She had a special bond with my mother who treated her like a daughter. I will miss her dearly. My sincere condolences to her family whom she cherished. Her kindness, generosity and love will be sorely missed.
