Roberta N. Main

Roberta N. Main, beloved wife of 53 years of John M. Main of Bethel, died peacefully on February 8, 2010 at Danbury Hospital after a long illness. She was 77. Roberta, known as"Berta" to all, was born August 14, 1932, at Danbury Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Harris and Natalie (Berry) Chapman. A lifelong area resident, she lived in Danbury before moving to Bethel in 1944. She was a 1950 graduate of Bethel High school. Berta spent many years as a waitress at the Spinning Wheel restaurant in Redding and also worked in the caf� at Read's Department Store in Danbury before becoming a full-time homemaker. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved nothing more than spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was also an avid solver of word puzzles, and you rarely walked into her home without finding her hard at work on one. In addition to her husband, her four children and their spouses also survive Berta, Marylou and Christopher Wogksch of Bethel, Gregory and Susan Main of Chelmsford, Mass., Suzanne and Randy Rodgers of Bethel, and Debra and Timothy McGrath of Newtown and her ten grandchildren, Adam, Jason and Daniel Wogksch, Christopher, Mikael and Samantha Main, Claire and Jill Rodgers, and Kyle and Emma McGrath, survive her as well. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Lou and brothers, Harris and Robert Chapman. Calling hours forfriends and family will be held in the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel, on Friday, February 12 from 5 to 8 pm. There will be a memorial service at the First Congregational Church in Bethel on Saturday, February 13, at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.
