So sad to hear of Skippy's passing. We were back-to-back neighbors on 5th and 6th Ave's. Not surprisingly, what a loved life he lived, reflected in the many tributes here. Rest in Peace Skippy.

My son met Skip toward the end of Skip's life and they became fast friends. I rent a cottage near Second Beach every September, and this past year I was fortunate enough to meet up with my son and Skip a few times while they were sitting in their beach chairs, taking in the sights of sand and sea, chatting about various seabirds, and talking to other beachgoers with their children and dogs. One day Skip and I were comparing watches and he pointed out he had a watch with a red face like mine. We both loved red watches. We admired each other´s. I told him my watch was quite old and didn't run anymore and I couldn't afford the repair estimate. I told him that was okay because I enjoyed just looking at the watch even if it couldn't tell me what time it was. That made sense to him. He said, "It's beautiful."
My son called to tell me recently the sad news that Skip had passed away. I wanted his family and friends to know that it was fun chatting and laughing with him, and that this September won't be the same without him. What a dear man. My most sincere condolences to you.
All best,
Mary-Ann Tirone Smith

In my senior year of Fox Lane H.S. in 1973, I was a pole vaulter. Skip was my very good track and field coach, and always very funny. Skip would come here to push me hard and do a better job. One time, I was practicing to run the crossbar. I was grasping my hands, fingers, wrists to hold firmly and pole vault. All of a sudden, Skip would come by at me. "That's not the way to do like this!" So he got some tape and started wrapping around over and over from my hands pressed together like glue. "Now, pole vault!' That was a man he was, and I will always will miss him so.

Mr. Earle is a gentleman I still talk about today to people when the topic of work ethic is brought up. Reading through his obituary, one can see what hard work can accomplish. For me, as a friend of David and Chris, being a guest at the Earle´s house occasionally came with a few strings attached. And for that, I am forever grateful. Want to come over for taco night? Sure, just have to help cut the lawn first. Want to spend the night knowing it will be a snow day from school tomorrow? Make sure to bring that shovel. I have an extra ticket for the Army/Navy game, want to join? No problem, just have the deck to paint before we go.
I don´t ever recall complaining about these tasks. Well, maybe not out loud. It was something Mr. Earle asked of us, and we did it. Heck, I was with my friends anyway, creating memories. But in the end, I was taught a lot more than that. Life lessons I still carry with me to this day. Hard work can pay off. And it´s helped me in many facets of my life.
Rest easy Mr. Earle.

I was a colleague of Skip's at BHES for years. Skip also taught my daughter P.E. throughout elementary school and then officiated many of her track meets when she was in high school. I will always remember Skip's humor, warmth, and high standards. I am so grateful that my daughter and I had the opportunity to know Skip for so many years. To Skip's family, I send my condolences and hope you find peace knowing how many lives Skip touched.

To Coach Earle´s family,
I´m sad to hear of Coach´s passing. He was my high school track coach and a tremendous, positive influence on me and on so many others. Not a stretch to say he was a father figure.
He taught by example, set high standards, and always there for me with a joke and his gregarious laughter.
He was one-of-a-kind and lives in the fond memory of all who knew him.

I´m reminded of the quote, something to the effect of..."you might forget what someone says, but you never forget how they made you feel" He made each of us feel important and valued for our individual strengths.
An incredible educator and joy to be around. I looked forward to gym, track, and going to school as a whole because of Coach Earl. His family and loved ones will be in my prayers.

Dear Sherry & family,
I will always remember Skip for his forever smile & willingness to offer a helping hand. Rarely were we able to have a conversation in front of your house without cars going by beeping their horn and Skip waving to them. He deservedly earned the moniker "Mayor of East Gate Road".

Skip was an amazing educator and friend! I am so saddened by this news. One of my favorite memories is him dancing on the roof of Bedford Hills in an ape costume on Halloween. Students and faculty adored Skip! He was a one of a kind teacher! My students couldn't wait to go to his physical education classes because of him. He raised students' self-esteem and really cared about kids. I learned so much from him!
