Alan Mason Obituary

Alan Mason
June 9, 1937 - May 13, 2024
Alan Mason of Hancock, Maine, formerly of Branford and Deep River, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Finnegan Mason. He is survived by his two daughters, Lisa Drum (Jim) of Madison and Debbie Bielefield (Charlie) of Durham. He is also survived by his brother, Alfred Mason (Eileen) of Branford and his sister, Beverly Brazee of Clinton. He leaves behind his beloved grandchildren Amanda Belton (Daniel), Jessica Drum (Wes), Andrew Bielefield, and James Drum as well as many nieces and nephews. Al is also survived by his longtime friend, Mark Munger as well as many dear friends in both Connecticut and Maine. Alan was born in New Haven on June 9, 1937, son of Alfred and Dorothy Pallas Mason. He served for 10 years in the United States Navy aboard aircraft carriers including the USS Saratoga and the USS Intrepid. After an honorable discharge from the Navy he became an electrician for CL&P (Eversource) and worked for them for 30 years. During the years that he lived in Deep River he served as President as well as bus driver for the Deep River Junior Ancient Fife and Drum Corps. After his retirement from CL&P he and his wife moved to Hancock, Maine. Al loved the peace and serenity at their home on the water. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He became a recreational lobsterman and enjoyed sharing his new hobby with his family. He also loved to travel with his wife and family. His travels took him to Hawaii, Alaska, Grand Canyon, Ireland and to Disney World. Another hobby of his was birdwatching. He always liked to identify the birds at his feeders in the hopes of seeing a new and different species.
The family would like to thank Smilow Cancer Hospital, especially Dr. David Schoenfeld and the exceptional staff on NP-8 for their care and support.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 31st at 10:00 a.m. at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford. Burial will follow in Tabor Cemetery in Branford. Friends may call prior to the service from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Please see his online memorial at www.wsclancy.com. My brother just shared the news of this wonderful man´s death. I wish I knew about it sooner or I would have respectfully attended his funeral. I hope he´s enjoying the afterlife with Peggy.

Thinking of my dear friend Al especially today as he is put to rest. In retirement he and Peggy wanted to spend their time in Maine. When they found their home in Hancock they knew this is where they wanted to be. Bill and I thought we would move to Maine first but they were first. I always enjoyed our friendship particularly visiting in Maine. I miss Al terribly. Rest in peace . Love you, Barbara Malcarne
