Alberta P. Bowery, of East Haven, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025, in Yale New Haven Hospital, surrounded by her family. Born in New Haven, CT, she was the daughter of the late Alberto and Tessie Driend Piazza. She was the devoted wife of Robert "Red" Bowery for 59 years. She shared a wonderful, loving relationship with her husband, and children, Kathleen and the late John Bowery. Alberta was an X-Ray technician and instructor at the Hospital of Saint Raphael for many years. She later worked at Coastline Medical Center & Heath South. Alberta made everyone feel welcome, having the gift of gab, with her signature hair, lipstick, laugh, and infectious smile. Her positive and thoughtful nature radiated by touching the lives of her family and friends. She cherished her childhood friends and being one of the "Momauguin Girls." She enjoyed basking in the sun, surrounded by friends at the Owenego during the summer, and sharing laughs at the Knights of St. Patrick & the Elks Lodge #25. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews, who loved her dearly. Alberta's family would like to thank her Smilow care team on the 7th floor, Dr. Kothari, Kaitlin Dolan and Donna Watkins, as well as Yale's MICU for the compassionate care they provided during her illness. Also a special thank you to Opal Stork and her aide, Donna, who provided her home care.
Services: Visiting hours will be held Thursday, February 13, 2025, from 4:00-7:00pm in the Iovanne Funeral Home, Inc., 11 Wooster Place in New Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning at 11:00 in St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at Our Lady of Pompeii Church, 355 Foxon Rd. in East Haven. Please meet directly at church. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to benefit cancer awareness, research, and care; Melissa Marottoli Hogan Foundation, 6 Partidge Lane, Branford, CT 06405, Smilow Cancer Hospital or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
