CLINTON, MA - Beverly K. (Brann) Chieffo, 93, passed away peacefully on her birthday on Monday, January 15, 2024 while under the compassionate care and comfort of the staff at the Artisan at Hudson Community in Hudson, MA. Born in Hudson, MA and raised in Beacon Falls, Connecticut, Beverly was the daughter of Theodore and Anna Brann and lived the last 10 years in Clinton, MA until recently moving to Hudson, MA.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Walter J. Chieffo; her son, Paul T. Chieffo of Lancaster, MA; her granddaughter, Hannah E. Chieffo and her wife, Sara Chieffo of Worcester, MA; a sister, Nancy DeMusis; and several nieces. Beverly is predeceased by a son, Christopher Chieffo, a sister, Mary Lou Brann, and her daughter-in-law, Wendy Chieffo.
Beverly was a graduate of Naugatuck High School in Naugatuck CT, class of 1949. She later graduated Southern Connecticut State University with a bachelor's degree in education, and Yale University with a bachelor's degree in Painting. After getting married, Bev and Walter made their home in Bethany, CT, where they raised their family.
She was a highly accomplished artist with a profound love of art and art history. She was talented in many mediums, and worked in oil painting, intaglio printmaking, and was an expert in color theory. After receiving her undergraduate degrees, Beverly furthered her education receiving a Master of Arts from the Villa Schifanoia in Florence, Italy and a Master of Fine Arts from Lehman College in New York. She was an art and art history professor at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, CT, where she taught for many years, retiring in 2003. Beverly found immense joy in nurturing her students and instilling in them a deep passion for the arts through her teaching.
She had a love for music and spent many Saturday afternoons listening to the Metropolitan Opera broadcasts on the radio. Beverly was an active member in the choir at St. Augustine Church in Seymour, CT for many years. Along with her love of music she was a passionate fan of Shakespeare and enjoyed reading and watching theatrical performances of his works. From a young age, Beverly took great joy in watching movies, especially the classics. She had an extensive movie collection that grew over the years.
Beverly was incredibly sweet and loved by all who knew her. She had an infectious warmth that charmed everyone she met.

You walked so softly and gracefully through our thorny world, so delicately Bev, that I never realized you were gone. I am left with nothing but joyful memories of your sweetness, and endless gratitude for your gifts of art and the inspiration you provided which illuminated the path to my career in the creative arts. I love and miss you Bev, but I feel that our paths will cross again. ~ You Cousin Jim

Bev was an amazing woman and someone I am glad to have known. She was my fathers cousin who i met since i was a child who always brought joy and laughter wherever she went. Although i never knew she had such a love for the arts and passion for them I now know that she would be proud that my daughter is gifted in musical theater and very artistic although neither my wife or I am. She was sweet, kind and thoughtful and although i only met her a few times in my life , she left a lasting influence. May she rest in peace.

My deepest condolences to Beverly's family and friends. From the beginning of her appointment to the Albertus faculty my office was directly opposite the art classroom. Between classes we would often exchange our thoughts about teaching and students. She was well aware that most of her students were not going to be professional artists, but she hoped that her teaching would give students an appreciation of art that they would carry with them during the rest of their lives. Since we shared many of the students in our classes, I can attest that students greatly appreciated her quiet and soft spoken, almost maternal interaction with students.
