Paula A. Chieffo, 83, of Hermitage, formerly of Farrell, PA, passed away Wednesday evening, March 11, 2026, at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Paula was born May 11, 1942, in Sharon, a daughter of the late Harry and Ann (Kollar) Staccine. She graduated from Brookfield High School in 1960. During and after high school, she worked at Reyers Shoe Store and later at the former Gibbs Flower Shoppe in Farrell. She also spent time helping elderly residents in their homes.
On November 10, 1962, she married the love of her life, Lawrence R. Chieffo, at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Farrell. He preceded her in death on January 21, 2008.
Paula was a devoted member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, where she and her husband were active in many church projects. She served on the Parish Council, including as council president. She was also a founding member of the Bethony Club, serving as both president and secretary, and volunteered at the former Geno J. Monti Parochial Grade School.
She enjoyed an active social life. An avid bowler, Paula was a charter member of the Wednesday Morning Breakfast League at Thornton Hall and bowled for many years at Sunset Lanes with her husband. She was also a talented bocce player, participating at the Italian Home, New Deal Club, Sons of Italy, and the Farrell American Legion.
Paula loved caring for her home, especially working in her yard and planting flowers. Decorating for Christmas was one of her favorite traditions. She also had a gift for sewing and spent many years as a talented seamstress, helping countless people with wedding gowns, prom dresses, and homecoming attire.
She will be fondly remembered for her wonderful cooking and for the many requests she fulfilled for her famous pepperoni rolls.
Above all, Paula cherished her family. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren, and she loved attending their school and sporting events whenever she could.
She is survived by her son, Christopher John Chieffo and his wife, Debra, of Lyons, CO; her grandson, Ryan Chieffo and his wife, Amanda; her granddaughter, Marissa Unverdorben; her beloved great-grandpuppy, Sophie; and her sister-in-law, Mary Joy Stremlau.
In addition to her parents and husband, Paula was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Chieffo, and a brother, Harry D. Staccine.
The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Shenango Valley Animal Shelter, 2599 Broadway Rd, Hermitage, PA 16148.
Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday (03/16/2026) in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell.
Mass of Christian burial will immediately follow at 1 p.m. Monday, in the church, with Rev. Glenn Whitman, pastor, as celebrant.
